Blindside Inspiration The Blind Side, a movie about a boy, Michael Oher, who becomes a football sensation, however with his past, it was not easy to become what he is today. Before Michael was a football success story, he was homeless with only one pair of shorts and a couple of shirts. Michael had grabbed a spot at a private Christian school but didn’t have quality grades or a place to stay. When Leigh Anne Tuohy, SJ and Sean Tuohy were driving home, they came across Michael walking to the school gym because it was warm and the only place he could go. They took him off the street that night and let him stay with them. They soon adopted him. The first one that appeared in the movie was when he went to go get his clothes from his mom’s place. Leigh Anne was going to go with him, but Michael didn’t want her getting out of the car. He was trying to protect her from the people he lived near because it was not the safest side of town. For instance, one way to prove his protective instincts was through a test they took. He scored in the 98th percentile for protective instincts. As mentioned earlier, Michael is strong, but he did not want to hurt any football players, this changed by the end of the movie, he learned that he was protecting his football family and in order to do that he had to tackle the other team. Consequently, Michael has been protective ever since he was a little boy. Leigh Anne had gone to talk to Michael’s birth mother and she told her that whenever he would get taken away from her, he would run away from the place they took him just to go find her and live with her again. Another way Michael showed his protective instinct was when he got into a car crash and his little brother, SJ, who was in the front seat. Michael had blocked SJ from the air bag so that it wouldn’t hit him or even possibly kill him. A personality trait that lets you adjust to new conditions is the definition of adaptability. With me always had a busy schedule, things can often change at the last minute. Whether it’s in the plans that I had or in a soccer game or even at home, I’ve always adapted well to it without making a big deal about it. With a busy schedule and usually being on the road on the weekend, I adapted to doing homework in the car when necessary, staying up considerably late to take time with my animals and lastly is having a longer day at school than most other people. Therefore, this is how I see adaptability in my life
Michael was loyal and dedicated when he shocked Clyde, the guy that was trying to rob his mother. in that scene he was showing loyalty to his mother by Shocking Clyde, his mom became safe from hid gun.
In the high class society Leigh Anne lives in, taking in an African American is daring. Throughout the film Leigh Anne is continuously taunted for her decisions but by standing up for her adopted son heroism is portrayed periodically. In the scene at a rivalry football game an obnoxious fan repeatedly slanders Michael. Michael had shot off the rifle that killed Jenna’s father. Michael had accidentally shot it into the sky to show his best friend, Joe, how it works. Michael then heard about Jenna’s father’s death and knew instantly that it was his fault. He “remembered the story about the girl who choked on a stone” (page 32) and knew that he was also choking on his guilt. Michael keeps denying that he killed Mr. Ward but he knows in the end that it was him. Michael has also lied to the police about where the gun is and how his best friend Joe borrowed it. Michael should be honest and tell the police what has actually happened and maybe he will not get into so much trouble. Michael has also cheated on his girlfriend with Amy Ruggerio. The first one of these adaptations was conformity. This is the most widely practiced form of adaptation. Conformists buy into the conventional goals of society and they believe they need to work hard in order to achieve these goals. These people strive for success through hard work. Even if they realize that their aspirations may be a little high, they continue to follow social rules (Gomme, 2007) and “grin and bear it” (Winfree & Abadinsky, 2003) the legitimate way. Michael soon decides that if he can trust Joe enough to keep in silence, he may be able to out wit the police. When Michael makes his decision, he never considers the ramifications that will come of it. For example, Michael never even considers the long agonizing nights he will stay awake or the ling pain filled days he will go through thinking of Jenna Ward and her mother suffering day after day. On the contrary, Michael thinks he will be able to just move on and forget about it.
It wasn’t a pleasant meeting at Nonna house. Josie was very rude towards Michael. She wanted to make Michael feel bad. She did that by saying “My mother had me young” (page 39). After that statement, Michael’s face went pale and he looked at her in absolute shock.
As we have already discussed, Michael is really suffering from all the jumbled changes in his life, both physically and psychologically. He isolates himself from his school friends into his home and time with his father, and the negative tolls can easily be seen. However, what seems like in the nick of time, his meeting of Skellig brings Michael out of his shell and into the guiding hands of Mina. Although she seems unresponsive in the beginning, the mother finally wishes Michael the best. She says that social services had branded Michael "a runner," and she forecasts that Leigh Anne will find one day that he has run away for good without giving any previous notice. Leigh Anne also faces some tough guys from the projects who had made ugly insinuations about her before. They are left speechless when she threatens them and is not afraid of them at all.
Soon after the story begins we get an insight into who Michael truly is. One could easily describe him as a Meek young man, as the narrator states Michael is very unsure of himself while asking the townspeople questions on the subject of the whereabouts of the Hangman. Though, his insecurities do not stop him from his ability to do his job. To be a decent writer you have to be observant, which fits Michaels personality perfectly. In the scene when Leigh Ann is having lunch with her “wealthy” friends after she sent out Christmas cards that had Michael in them, one of her friends says “Well, you might as well adopt him” in a snide kind of way, and Leigh Ann replies, “He’s about to be 18, there is no need to try to do that now”. The friends were surprised that Leigh Ann had not only said that, but that it was actually something that she had thought about. The film exhibits and analyzes the story of NFL player Michael Oher’s life through high school as he endures various adversities and difficulties in his life. It tells Oher’s story of being the son of a cocaine addictive mother and absentee father, who is homeless due the circumstances of his family. Despite not having either of his parents in his life he did have Big Tony, who was his friend’s dad. The purpose of the study was to examine the impact of personality traits, specifically strong personality traits, on the ability of managers to adapt to changes. Personality types were determined using the Cattrel’s 16PF5 method. The case study data was based upon a critical market shift and need for change as defined by 33 observation points and analyzed through a regression equation model of two-dimensional space. The results suggested that intra-team traits showed habitual responses. In addition, traits of intelligence and stability resulted in improved post challenge response, while other strong traits resulted in rigidity.
The concept of personality has numerous definitions (Fatahi, Moradi, & Kashani-Vahid, 2016). Schultz and Schultz (2009), define personality in its broad sense as the manner of an individual’s behaviour in different situations. This essay explores the nature of personality, with the intention of highlighting its flexibility. The results of numerous empirical research studies are examined in order to investigate if, and how personality changes over time. It will be argued that an individual’s personality has the ability to change throughout their life.
