The Problem: The current increase in inequality has led to a decrease in economic well-being among people of color in America compared to white men, especially among black women. Increase inequality toward racial and ethnic groups are of concern; as its leading to a lower integration mobility and divisiveness among Americans. In fact, 75 percent of people feel that America needs a strong leader to take the country back (Kahn, 2016) Data: All racial and ethnic group are being affected by the increase in inequality. Black women have especially been affected: Black women suffer from both racial and gender pay gap. For this reason, black women are one of the lowest earning groups in America. Even with the increased in education, they are still unequal pay compared to their male counterpart; when black women earn higher level education, the pay gap with white male increase to about 17 dollars an hour (Wilson, 2017). In addition, many believe that black women take lower paying jobs, and this is the reason for lower wages. Black women are underpaid and paid less than white women and white men in all areas and occupation. This phenomenon reinforces old racial ideologies that hinder black women for ever climbing up the economic ladder. One of the reasons that the average black-white wage gap has continued to increase is many African Americans don’t earn wages that place them among the top 5 percent of wage earners, where growth is happening.
