Biorhythms and Daily Life
Abstract: The knowledge of biorhythms, or the body's natural cycles, can be applied to numerous aspects of daily life. Biorhythms have medical, occupational, and recreational uses which allow for the maximization of healthy, productive life through understanding and application.
Biorhythms, as described by other members of this research team, are the natural cycles of the human body. Most important to this undertaking are circadian rhythms, those which repeat roughly every 24 hours. Obvious examples include sleep cycles and temperature fluctuations; more subtle types of circadian rhythms are hormone production and cell division patterns. The scientific community's growing understanding of these everyday phenomenon has resulted in newfound comprehension of many aspects of our lives, including medicine, work, and recreation.
The most striking advances enable by biorhythmic research have come in the area of medicine. Chronotherapuetics, or the synchronization of treatment with body rhythms, is perhaps the most rapidly growing field of medicine. Increasingly, pharmaceutical companies, research centers and individual doctors have begun to consider the body's flux when prescribing medical treatment. Many chronic ailments have direct connections to biorhythms, and by utilizing new treatments which acknowledge this potential tool, doctors anticipate that many sufferers formerly resigned to coping with perpetual hardship will be able to lead relatively normal lives. A prime example of chronotherapeutics involves arthritis treatment. Even non-world class athletes benefit from this knowledge. Rather than subject yourself to an early morning run, a better decision would be to wait until evening, when your body is ready for the physical stress that accompanies exercise and exertion.
In conclusion, then, it has been demonstrated that understanding of biorhythms can be utilized in numerous ways, all of which improve daily life. Through precision treatment of medical ailments, compensation for occupational stress, and maximization of athletic potential, biorhythms are an integral part of our daily lives and effect us in much of what we do.

Popular culture depicts Medieval chivalry as a glamorous and high time for women, with knights bending their knees in worship to them in Pre-Raphaelite paintings, and the fairness and virtue of women being celebrated in literature. Chivalry is often understood as the elevation of the lady fair, with men taking upon themselves the task of protecting and defending women. In fact, though, this was not an elevation of women but a limitation of their freedom and an undermining even of their intelligence and strength of will. Medieval chivalry, in essence, subordinated women to men while claiming to elevate women. In Lanval and Laustic, women are shown to have a subordinate status to men in three ways: being painted as temptresses, being subject to protection from men, and being subservient to orders from men.

This study examined the determining factors to why these subjects involve themselves in the activity that they do. By sitting down and talking with these Adolescent Black males you get a better understanding of them and their situation. It has been concluded that the ones involved in crack dealing either struggle with peer pressure, low self esteem, socioeconomic status or severe family issues.
The second part of this lab was a computer simulation program to illustrate a frog’s electrocardiogram using various drugs in an isolated setting. The computer program entitled “Effects of Drugs on the Frog Heart” allowed experimental conditions to be set for specific drugs. The different drugs used were calcium, digitalis, pilocarpine, atropine, potassium, epinephrine, caffeine, and nicotine. Each of these drugs caused a different electrocardiogram and beats per minute reading. The calcium-magnesium ration affects “the permeability of the cell membrane”(Fox). When calcium is placed directly on the heart it results in three physiological functions. The force of the heart increases while the cardiac rate decreases. It also causes the appearance of “ectopic pacemakers in the ventricles, producing abnormal rhythms” (Fox). Digitalis’ affect on the heart is very similar to that of calcium. It inhibits the sodium-potassium pump activated by ATP that promotes the uptake of extracellular calcium by the heart. This in return strengthens myocardial contraction (Springhouse). There are many ways in which scientists and researchers try to understand the molecular uniqueness and physiology of living organisms. One of these ways is the Circadian clock, this clock transfers the physiology and behaviors of mammalians into rhythms that are coordinated with the 24hr solar system. This system can be affected by environmental factors such as the food, temperature and parasites. The circadian rhythms play a role in gene expression to produce protein. Gene expression is displayed through the central dogma of (DNA RNA protein). How the clock work with the 24hr solar day is that it allows gene expression every 24hr to tell when a physiological process is most active. And any damage made to the DNA is more effective
Crack is the name given to cocaine that has been transformed into a condensed, more pure, rock form that can be smoked. It is the most addictive form of cocaine due to a higher potency level than the typical batch of street cocaine. Crack cocaine has often been referred to as a ‘soul drug’ because it has a tendency to rob its victims of everything including money, family, morals, and even life itself. Furthermore, it is possible to become addicted to crack cocaine from the very first time it is used, creating a vortex of misery for those who come into contact with it. The failed French Revolution and Industrial Revolution seriously mark the novel with hints of moral and scientific revolution. Through Frankenstein, Shelley sends out a clear message that morally irresponsible scientific development can unleash a monster that can destroy its creator.
Our bodies go through these biological timers, and continue to do so if we accept them, or not. Supporting this, we look at sleep, where the cycle of non-REM to REM changes asymmetrically throughout our phases spent unconscious. Whereas a few lost hours of sleep left me exhausted the next day, bringing down energy that I had from the day before. Circadian rhythms are part of the daily lives of humans. They cue our levels of alertness, our need for sleep, and our time of waking. To better understand these rhythms, scientists from around the globe have participated in difficult research for years. As of yet, the research shows that light, hormones, exercise, age, and a variety of other factors are important in determining circadian rhythms. Perhaps in the future, scientists will be able to manipulate circadian rhythms so that people no longer feel fatigue. By then, maybe Tomas Izquierdo could finally get some long overdue sleep.
In time domain analysis, SDNN, (standard deviation of all normal sinus RR ) an index of overall Heart Rate Variability, RMSSD (root-mean-square of the successive normal sinus RR interval) and percentage of differences between adjacent normal RR intervals exceeding 50 milliseconds (pNN50%) are studied. RMSSD and pNN50 shows greater correlation with parasympathetic nervous activity. In frequency domain analysis, spectral estimates of RR intervals is done by integrating the power as Total Power ( TP) from 0.04 to 0.40 Hz, Low frequency power(LF) from 0.04 to 0.15 Hz, HF (high frequency) power from 0.15 to 0.40 Hz .Power contained in VLF band is not calculated because of its dubious physiologic significance.
Throughout this investigation, I will be conducting a number of experiments to help solve whether or not heart rate is affected by exercise. My aim is to identify the difference of every volunteer’s heart rate and take down how old they are so I can evaluate whether or not the age of a person make a difference in their bpm (beats per minute).
