Brass, military, and orchestra. Those were some of the genres John Philip combined together in his band and made him successful. Some other things that helped him become successful were his experience in a military band before the Sousa Band. Also that he had a passion he wouldn’t give up on.
Being in a military band for 11 or 10 years before the Sousa Band helped because he knew what it was like to be in one of the popular bands back then. When he was in the military band he was the director of the marine band in Washington which helped he to become a conductor. Also according to passage two it said,“ I attracted the attention of several gentlemen interested in music...and made me an offer to leave Washington and start a band.”

Jazz music did not become successful on its own. Its huge success during the 1940’s and 1950’s is due to the talented jazz singers and musicians who contributed to music. One of the successful musicians who contributed to Jazz was Louis Jordan. Jordan was an African American singer, bandleader and best known for his amazing technique and style while playing the saxophone. What set Jordan apart from all the other Jazz singers of his time was his appearance; being a comedian before going into music helped him appeal a wider and a more diverse audience. Art Blakey was born to a poor family in the heart of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1919. He was working in the steel and coal mills when he was only fourteen. There were no child labor laws in those times. He had to work to help support his family and put food on the table. Blakey turned to music as a way of escaping the exhausting day-to-day labor of the mills. Blakey taught himself how to play the piano. Even though he couldn't read music, and could only play songs in three keys, Blakey was a crowd favorite a several local venues. He used to make fifteen-twenty dollars a night in tips every night he went. At fifteen Blakey was leading his own band. They were small and unknown, but played at clubs all around the city.

Lots of people try to be funny and answer Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants but who really were the super stars of this well-known instrument? There are many clarinet players out there that had a lot of great master pieces and who made very important achievements with this instrument. One of these famous clarinet players was a man named Johann Simon Hermstedt. Johann Simon Hermstedt was one of the many well-known clarinet players of the 19th century. Hermstedt was born on December 29 of 1778 and he died on August 10 of 1846 in Sondershausen, Germany. Hermstedt also played an important part in Germany, when he lived in Germany, he played as court clarinetist to Duke Gunther I of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen, and he also taught him how to play the clarinet. Another clarinet player named Louis Spohr’s used to play concerts and he played four concerts along with Carl Maria von Weber, played all pieces that were composed by Hermstedt. These two clarinet players were very dedicated to his work and his life; they were very inspired by his way of playing. Hermstedt was pretty much a bit of a composer himself, he wrote various pieces of music for other wind instrument players but he’s not as famous as Mozart and all other composers, he was more of a conservative player.
He did well when it came to playing different instruments. His favorite musician was Beethoven. He played a violin that he found with two strings at Pershing Square in Los Angeles. He was a man of many talents when it came to playing instruments. He was diagnosed with Schizophrenia when he was in college and he started to hear voices and it took over his life as evidence by him dropping out of college and becoming homeless. Nathaniel played any instrument that he could find. He found instruments such as the violin, trumpet, and cello and transported them in his shopping cart.

As a child, Nat dreamed to be a big band leader and soloist in the tradition of his idol, Earl "Fatha" Hines. By twelve years old, Nat was already playing the organ at church, amazing for such a young man only trained by his mother. Later, Nat would be enrolled in formal piano lessons, which only further add to his impressive repertoire.
Where I learned how to become a leader through the leadership ensemble within the marching band. Where in my senior and fourth year of marching competitively, I became the Drum Major, and earned the Best Drum Major Award at the Roxbury Marching Band Classic Competition. From marching band I progressed into jazz music, where I became the lead alto saxophonist in the top jazz band at my school during my junior and senior year. I was also one of three saxophonists in the top band at my school. I picked up the clarinet, the flute, and the soprano saxophone on my way through high school, and have played all three as well in my performing ensembles. I played in the pit orchestra of the theater production of “All Shook Up”, and was the principal saxophonist at my high school. Too be short, I am very involved in all things music in the past and currently. Band and music have been a place for me to rely on, something that brings me joy when sad. Allows me to express myself through sounds and through instruments. All types of music require musicians. In the H.R (Harlem Renaissance), there were many who contributed to this new style of music known as jazz. These musicians all have their own style and form. Each of these styles has in some way influenced the evolution of jazz. Louis “Sachmo” Armstrong is recognized as the most famous trumpet player of this time. His “hot bop” style was heard in places like the Cotton Club and the Apollo Theatre. Everyone from all over the country would come to see him.
