I was born John Ernst Steinbeck, Jr. In Salinas, California on February 27, 1902. Throughout my earlier life i worked hard to try and put myself through school at Stanford Bridge; but never graduated. During this time i had decided that i wanted to become an author, I didn’t see as to why I needed a college education to become a writer. I had fallen in love with the art of literature ever since i was young; My mother and my favorite book, “Le Morte d'Arthur” were big influences. Not a day passed that I didn’t think of pursuing my dream. My journey began around the 1920’s, when I arrived in New York I worked as a reporter and as part of a construction crew building Madison Square Garden. I decided to was time to start progressing and that’s exactly what I did. I began collecting impressions for my first book. I enjoyed writing with pencils so much, that I would be using as many as 60 a day. In 1929 it all payed off, and i ended up publishing my first book, “Cup of Gold”. Critics say that this is some of my most artistically satisfying work; I feel joy knowing people are enjoying my work. After having completed this book, I tried establishing myself as a freelance writer; but that didn't go so well and it failed. I decided to return back to California to move onto more serious fiction. Following my move to California I began to work on my next project.. I named this one: “Of Mice and Men”. While writing it, my dog somehow managed to eat my first draft of the new novel. Come February 6, 1937 the book was released and it became one of my most famous works of
