In August of 2016, The Australian featured a comic by Bill Leak that depicted “a drunk Aboriginal father who had forgotten his own son’s name”. Shortly after, Leak fell victim to public pressure. This brought about the argument whether alcoholism is genetic. The conception that Indigenous people are genetically intolerant to alcohol persists worldwide, due to the overwhelming amount of mass media. Which brought public awareness to the topic and initiated a discussion. Laurie River Lodge in Manitoba addressed their position on the argument in their 2011 trip planning guide.
