Bilingual Education Interview Essay

When given this task to interview someone about bilingual education I really didn’t know who I was going to ask. I had some people in mind, but forgot that they are away at college so I defaulted to my mother. Her demographic is a white 55+ year old female. She works in retail at Bed, Bath, & Beyond. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UIC. She has a 54-year-old husband and two children, both boys ages 27 and 24 (me). I was basing this whole assignment on the fact that most people in this country probably don’t know anything about bilingual education and what is actually happening in this area. I didn’t know or really hear anything about this topic ever before and neither has anyone else in my immediate family.

This goes with my whole belief that not a lot of people know about bilingual education and the way that it is affecting people living in this country. I mean if you were to ask a random person or a group of people these questions I think that most would know the simple ones like, “What is bilingual education?” or “What does it mean to be bilingual?”, but when asking the more in depth questions I feel most people …show more content…

There is a quote from G.I. Joe that says, “knowing is half the battle”, and I feel that this quote applies to a lot of areas in life. Just in the short amount of time that we had in our groups on last week’s discussions was enough to see how some of the people in the class had gone through and the ways that they have dealt with learning English.
