Big Brothers Big Sisters: Community Analysis

The first volunteer group I am in is Big Brothers Big Sisters. Big Brothers Big Sisters is an amazing community mentor program that I was introduced to by my high school. I get to go every Thursday to Nashport Elementary and spend time with two little sisters, for an hour. When I started this volunteer group I was very nervous; I was worried about whether my littles would like me or if I could even help them. However, once I started, I realized that these little kids just needed someone to care about their day and to listen. I have two littles: one is named Bernadette and the second one is Kylie. These little girls have been through a lot in their lives, so it was very special that they felt comfortable enough to let me be their friend and listen. I did Big Brothers Big Sisters my Junior year, and I am going back to Nashport for my Senior year. I wanted to give back to my community, and maybe I didn’t give back to everyone, but I gave those two girls an outlet and someone to care about them. I have never felt the kind of love and selflessness that I feel in Ruriteen. We not only talk about our love for God, but we talk about how can we help others and how can we improve our community. The following are some volunteer projects that our Ruriteen group has done: raised money for Pennies for Patients, we made chew toys and blankets for the animal shelter, we help our firefighters with their annual cookout dinner, we give some of the money we raised from fundraisers to cancer survivors in our community, and the list goes on. We want our community to be a safe and happy environment, but if we do not try to give back to the community then it will not be safe and enjoyable for everyone. This group of people are real leaders to everyone at my school and in our area, and that is why I want to be a part of something that can make a
