Dylan Baker Benjamin Lundy was a Baltimore Quaker who published America’s first anti slavery newspaper. Some of the South’s’ most prominent slaveholders establishes the American Colonization Society, in 1816. The goal of the ACS was to encourage the migration of free African Americans to Africa. Most of the free African Americans were wary of the motives of the ACS. Garrison was in favor of the freeing of enslaved people. He took the radical step of advocating immediate emancipation and the extension of full political and social rights to African Americans.
