Hood.Session1.Journal It is important to know what you are doing. It is important to know how to do what you are doing. But it is most important to know why you are doing what you are doing. In order to keep one’s momentum in life, and in order to feel like you have accomplished anything, you need to have vision for your life and for your future. My vision for my life and for my future is to become a Christian Counselor. The answer to my “why” is because I want to help the lost and the broken find healing, love and acceptance in their Heavenly Father. I believe that true and lasting healing cannot take place without addressing the entire being: body, mind, soul and spirit. It causes me great angst. It is my personal opinion that when something brings you angst, it is because God has opened your eyes to the issue, in order to use you to be a solution to the problem. For a long time I waited to see if someone would come to meet this need. I longed for someone to see its importance. Finally God showed me that He wanted ME to be the one to address this issue. The problem was: where to begin? The vision seemed too great and it frightened me. Can one person actually make a difference in this world? This is what I was wondering, but God began to show me that one person can change the world, and that there have been quite a few times that one person has changed the world. He reminded me of Eve in the Bible and how her actions changed everything. Next He reminded me of Gavrilo Princip, who assassinated the Archduke of Franc Ferdinand and caused WW1. Then He reminded me of Hitler and how that one man brought so much pain to the world. These were all people who negatively changed the world. Then He reminded me of people like Mother Theresa and Martin Luther King, Jr who chose love and changed their societies for the better. Finally He reminded me of Yeshua (Jesus). Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Yeshua began to show me that love changes the world and with His help and guidance, I can make a positive difference in this world. I just have to choose Love. So I began to look into how to become a counselor. I looked into the degrees that were required. There were so many courses that I had to take that seemed so unrelated! Most of the hours of the degree seemed to be superfluous. Why would a counselor need to know so much history? Those do not seem to be all that related. With the help of Robert Harris, I began to understand that these seemingly “unrelated courses” are very important for my overall education to better understand the world. The purpose of education is not just to earn a degree but to shape an individual into a well-rounded and well-informed person; one that will be able to interact with their society in a more intelligent and self-reflective manner. Many of those courses teach you critical thinking so that instead of just reacting to your environment you can be proactive and make a difference in society as a whole. This is ultimately my goal. So thus, my entire education course will aid me not just in my career but in the entirety of my
