Baseball began during the civil war by a man named Abner Doubleday in New York. Baseball is very near and dear to my heart, but I am convinced that people do not think baseball is very hard. As many of us know, there are nine people on the field at one time, you field a baseball and throw it to bases, and you have to learn how to vocal. Those are just parts of the game, but the hardest part of the game is hitting. The most important parts of hitting involves impeccable timing, with very good hands. Timing is a very key component to hitting. Timing will determine whether you hit or miss the baseball. If your timing is more than a tenth of a second off you will not make contact with a ball. The average MLB (Major League Baseball) fastball is 90 MPH, it takes .4 seconds to reach the batter, and the batter needs a full .25 seconds to process what it sees and react. Timing doesn't just determine wether you will hit or miss, but it will determine how hard you hit the baseball. To hit the ball as hard as you possibly can you must make contact with the ball when it reaches your front foot. If you hit the ball in the center of your body you will hit it foul to the right side. Just because, it is easier to measure bat speed than it is to measure hand speed. My personal bat speed is 89-93 MPH. That is how fast the bat moves through the hitting zone. If you have slow hands it will be hard to hit a baseball. If you have fast hand it will allow you to have more time to think about if you want to swing or not. Not only does having very good hands require bat speed but it also requires strong arms and a strong grip. Strong arms and a strong grip have a lot to do with how well you contact the ball.
