Every game needs rules in order to ensure that everyone has a fair chance at succeeding in the game. If, however, fairness to all players is not a necessity, then no rules are necessary. In “Bang the Drum Slowly,” this theme is inherent in everything from card games to life itself.

Brown had his mind made up to travel on the pathway to Harpers Ferry right when he was born and believed he is the only one that has to lead this battle. His parents were passionate Calvinists who taught their children to view life as an endless fight contrary to evil. The battle of John Brown was on a more personal level where he remembered a memory when he was five years old and his mother whipped him for stealing a vast amount of brass pins. In addition, the battle was somewhat on a political point as well because Brown and his family considered that the sincere had to be spectators against the bad people in America. They assumed that the biggest evil during their time has to be none other than the establishment of slavery. Therefore, the father of John Brown replaced their family residence in northeast Ohio into a stop on the Underground Railroad and made his son into a dedicated abolitionist. First, the main character, he is in a terrible situation, far from home, hungry, poor and his wife may die due to illness. We don't know his full past ,or know how much he or Laura’s hardships can be related to race. the author tells a story of an unfortunate individual who has suffered, and that the bingo game represents his chances of escaping his situation. As the author goes on to explain, "He felt a profound sense of promise, as though he were about to be repaid for all the things he'd suffered all his life. Trembling, he pressed the button" (42). If we look back at the time and the age of this short story his race and suffering are associated with one another. The bingo game comes off as a means for the main character to overcome and rise above his unpleasant situation. Our main characters luck is only temporary, because, Policemen come into play and fight the button away from him and beat him over the head. “Regardless, the main character is still the focus of the unfair world and a system in which he lives. The wheel lands on the evidently winning "double zero," but that's unluckily exactly the amount of money he is going to get” ("Protagonist in King of the Bingo Game.”). It was America mid 1850’s and slavery was a sensitive topic between the north and the south. It seemed slaves had no hope of ever changing America’s ways until a white man by the name of John Brown decided to stand up and fight for the abolishment of slavery, which has been said to be one of the major events leading up to the American Civil War. Browns actions were defended by himself claiming they were “consisting of God’s commandments” (Finkelman 2011). I will explain Brown’s deontological ethical perspective while preforming the actions for the abolishment of slavery.
A family either plays a positive role in one’s life leading to their success, or a negative role leading to failure. The love and concern from a family is very important in determining the prosperity in life of its members, and without this support, a person will only face adversity. The disappointment in life of Frances, Kathleen and Mercedes is due to lack of love and nurture, inadequate parenting and over protectiveness.
The Lords of War Simulation is best described by the neo-liberalist theory. Neo-liberalism best describes this game because it supports the ideology that everything humans do is in their own self interest. The theory also believes that people only cooperate with each other out of fear; actions of people playing Lords of War validate this theory. To succeed, neo-liberals need cooperation, institutions to mediate, as well as a fear of being defected on. Neo- liberals do not feel that humans are good in nature, but will argue that they have the capacity to bond together for the greater good, for their own personal benefit.
Rudyard Kipling wrote Kim during a very important historical period in India, while it was under British rule. In Kim, Kipling writes about the colonialism, the racism, and prejudices that were common place during that time period. Kipling incorporated cultural influences into each of his characters. This helped to establish the characters behaviors in particular and discernible ways. The four main players of the Great Game were: Colonel Creighton, Lurgan Sahib, Mahbub Ali, and Hurree Babu. They each are distinct characters who used their different personalities throughout the Great Game. Kipling not only explores the cultural and ethnical attributes that each player has in the Great Game, but he also exemplifies the societal and personal influence that could not be solely identified by the color of their skin.

Ophelia was displaced, an Elizabethan woman without the men on whom she had been taught to depend. Therein lies the problem - she lacked independence so much that she could not continue living without Polonius, Laertes, and Hamlet. Ophelia's aloneness led to her insanity and death. The form of her death was the only fitting end for her - she drowned in a nearby river, falling beneath the gentle waters. She finally found peace in her mad world. That is how Ophelia is so useful as a classic feminist study - she evokes imagery of the fragile beauty women are expected to become, but shows what happens to women when they submit as such.
Shakespeare’s Hamlet is set in the late middle ages, in Denmark. A time in history when women were not respected and thought of as the inferior sex. There are two women characters in Hamlet; Gertrude, Hamlet’s mother, and Ophelia, Hamlet’s love interest. Magda Romanska the writer of “Ontology and Eroticism: Two Bodies Of Ophelia”, argues that Ophelia represents the typical idea of women in the nineteenth century. I agree with this, but argue that it is not the only aspect of Ophelia’s character. Ophelia becomes the bearer of Hamlet’s hatred toward the world, and is also the character of lowest status because she is an average women. Success without adversity is impossible. Everyone in life has their ups and downs and nothing in this world is perfect. At some point in life, hardships begin to occur and that’s when the real test begins. Some people rise up and try their absolute best to take a stand against the challenge. Then there are others that would crawl back into their shells, crying for mercy. There should be no excuse for giving up or not putting in the effort. People are only successful in winning the battle of adversity when they are mentally tough. The intense game of adversity can be referred to football.
In Hamlet, one of the many things Shakespeare shows us is how the world can change a person, how certain circumstances can knock a person so out of proportion with who they used to be that they take on a new persona, a new identity. One such character is Ophelia, a young, innocent girl, who, throughout the play is torn between father and lover, accused of not being as innocent as she seems, and finally driven to insanity. In the end, she is driven to suicide, an innocent victim of the world around her.
One main reason why Bobby Fischer is the greatest player of all-time was because he defeated the legendary Soviet, Spassky. Before “The Match of the Century” began he said, “No matter how I win, if I do not shake my challenger’s hand, I will lose more than I’ve ever won anything in my life”(94). Bobby is a great sportsmanship, and a very talented chess player. Fischer’s challenger, ignores every distraction that Bobby makes. Spassky had always been serious about every game he plays. Ophelia, in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, represents a self-confident and aware female character. She analyzes the world around her and recognizes the multitude of male figures attempting to control her life. Her actions display not only this awareness, but also maturity in her non-confrontational discussions. Though she is demeaned by Laertes, Polonius, and Hamlet, Ophelia exhibits intelligence and independence and ultimately resorts to suicide in order to free herself from the power of the men around her.
