The book Band of Brothers is a chronologically ordered story of the exploits and struggles of Easy Company in the 101st airborne. The book begins during the basic training of the men at camp Toccoa in Georgia. Upon completion of their basic training they move to camp Bennings in Ohio where they begin and finish parachute school. When the men of Easy company get their wings they are sent to England to prepare and perform special drop training for D-day. After D-day the soldiers are part of the occupying force of France and are dropped outside Bastogne as support during the Battle of the Bulge. Next the 101st airborne recapture the town of Mourmelon in France. They then go on to fight in the netherlands where they assist in recapturing multiple …show more content…

Ambrose, wants the reader to learn of the story of Easy Company and of the 101st airborne. He wants you to feel awed by the exploits of these men, fighting their way out from being surrounded at Bastogne and Destroying German artillery at D-day. Ambrose wanted the stories of these men to be told and remembered before the men themselves are forgotten. Without this book there would be no story of Easy company or the 101st airborne, the men themselves passed on this story, for without it Easy company would just be another forgotten group of brave and determined young Americans who fought during world war two. The first paragraph of chapter five, particularly the first sentence “They jumped much too low from planes flying much too fast.” Is a good example of where the author is getting his point across as it tells of a danger these men faced besides when they jumped from planes only 500 feet in the air traveling at 50mph faster than during a normal drop. The paragraph is an example of something no one would have remembered without this book. Possibly the best example of Ambrose effectively making his claim is page 182.
