An auto mechanic, a tradesman who uses skills and tools to repair a variety of make and automobiles. Today mechanics are seen around almost every street corner in one place or another, but this was not always the case. Before 1920 the automobile was more of a speciality item not commonly available to the public. However like with all innovation this began to change, in this case by the doing of Ford Motor Company. Around this time Ford Motor Company began to mass produce cars that used interchangeable parts. With this new idea there came a unique opportunity for tradesman. So the auto mechanic began to come into being, a person who could take these interchangeable parts from the cars and repair and replace the broken ones. While not a glamorous or guaranteed job at first it was simply the beginning of a new craft that would some day be an essential part of the automobile industry. There are always jobs available in this industry because we have been and will most likely always be a transportation dependent society. While not the most high paying of jobs, beginning salary is around $27,000.00, but you can earn as much as $47,000.00. This may change with new innovation, but only time will tell. However there is always the chance for advancement with auto mechanics in becoming a supervisor within a dealership or to even becoming an entrepreneur with a new business. It is a job that requires physical and mental discipline. Being a physical job a person’s health and physique will always need to be kept up and being a rapidly growing field there will always be a need for a greater education. Auto mechanics are compiled with an ever growing demand since the first mass produced automobiles and with our ever growing world, one can only wonder just what this old age profession will become in the coming
