Concept Paper #3 Attraction
1. Definition and Description of Concept Throughout this section there have been very ambiguous and complicated definitions of attraction. If you look for the definition of attraction in the textbook, it refers you to friendship, love, and relationship. The definition of attraction according to google is "The action or power of evoking interest, pleasure, or liking for someone or something." The reasoning behind attraction is that we as humans are social beings that long for closeness and companionship. For the purpose of this essay, the initial attraction between individuals will be expounded as well as what helps maintain the attraction. There are many factors that contribute to attraction. Some examples of these are proximity, physical attractiveness, similarity, and mutual liking. Often, many of these work cohesively and simultaneously to cause and retain attraction. The likelihood and frequency of crossing paths with someone and striking up a conversation are drastically higher when

This was the study Elaine Hatfield did at the University of Minnesota. For this study, she used 752 incoming freshman and had them meet at a welcome dance. Beforehand, her and her co-workers gave them aptitude and personality tests but assigned them together at random. After the couples talked for two and a half hours, the only factor that contributed to them liking each other was the physical attractiveness of their partner. The result was that "Self-esteem, intelligence, and personality did not affect liking for the dates or subsequent attempts to date them."(Hatfield) This research shows the power that physical attractiveness has on who we are attracted to and who our potential partners

Critical Evaluationg of Psychological Theories of Interpersonal Attraction Interpersonal Attraction suggests as attraction between people, and although it may not in terms of a romantic relationship scenario as the phrase suggests, it nethertheless suggests an important attraction to create a relationship with a particular person. It may by that we are attracted to a particular person or a social relationship because we find them pleasant or because we find life alone unpleasant or unrewarding. Schacter (1959) conducted a study in which female participants were told that they were going to receive an electric shock in a following experiment. Half of the subjects were told it would be painful and the other half were told it would not be painful. Each group were given the option to wait with another person or on their own for the experiment.
There is a famous saying that states, “ we should not judge a book by its cover”, but oftentimes the first thing noticed on a person is their looks. One’s “physical beauty” strongly influences people’s first impressions of them. As a whole, we tend to assume that pretty people are more likeable and better people than those who are unattractive. Around the world, we believe that what is beautiful is good. There is a general consensus within a culture about what is considered physically appealing and beautiful. “Physical beauty” is associated with being more sociable, intelligent, and even socially skilled. Society shares this common notion of who has and who does not have “physical beauty”. Thus, “physical beauty”, as seen
Facial symmetry is also linked to agreeableness, extraversion and conscientiousness, so good-looking people generally find it easier to make friends and hold down jobs. Attractive people are most likely to succeed because some companies are looking for models to be on the cover of their magazines. They are always making money just to be on the cover of a book that people always complain about and they would just say that should I try this product do you think it will help my stubborn fat and try to lose it by taking this daily with food or water. Researchers say that they can tell if people are attractive or unattractive because they watch guys looking at women and giving facial expressions to tell the other person what they think about the girl or girls.
The immediate and initial attraction Tom has for Summer is purely aesthetic. He knows nothing about her other than she has the ideal features associated with Tom's opinion of what is physically attractive. The fact that they have similar appearances to each other could be another facet of the attraction. They both have dark brown hair, are near each other in height, and have a similar build and body frame size. Because of the studies conducted by Mackinnon, Jordan, and Wilson in 2011 showed that people are drawn closer to others that have similar features and appearances as them, this has a strong possibility of being a...
Whether it is the friends we choose or our romantic partners there is something that attracts us to the other person in these relationships. Maybe something that unknowingly leads us to develop a relationship with them. What is it that attracts a person to develop a relationship with them? In both friendships and romances. What is it that makes these relationships long lasting? With the high divorce rate among Americans and the rest of the world what is it that separates a couple? Could it be associated with the fact that the number one argument couples have is about money( ) ? Why do some marriages last and others end? These are the questions and theories I have searched for.
Human’s put a tremendous amount of brain energy and time into obtaining happiness, which is normally associated with finding the “perfect” mate. Many aspects go into the process that is used to determine if one person is better suited than another. Appearance, age, and personality all contribute to someone’s level of attraction to another. Opposites attract is a common myth stating that those levels of attraction are based of extreme differences between the individuals and that difference is what produces the attraction.
It may seem obvious to some why people mate, however there are many facets to human mating. Psychology has shown that reasons for mating have gone beyond the scope of love and physical attractiveness. People may search for mates who resemble archetypical images of the opposite-sex parent, mates with characteristics that are either complementary or similar to one's own qualities, or mates with whom to make an exchange of valuable resources (Buss 238). Although these theories play a key role in understanding patterns in human mating preferences, evolutionary psychology and sexual selection theory provide more concrete frameworks for explaining human mating.
Proximity: things that are happening near people is more interested for people than those that are far away
A widely debated on topic, The Law of Attraction is the concept that you attract the things that enter and leave your life. It's the idea that you ultimately are in charge of what happens in your life, both positive and negative.
Appearance matters much more than most people would like to admit. It follows us day to day and it even helps us during important life interactions. The stereotype of “What is beautiful is good” is perceived as attractive people do good things and are considered to be socially desirable. Physically attractive people get showed more attention and are more positively viewed than unattractive people. It’s hard to figure out why exactly that is, though. Just because one person is more attractive to look at doesn’t make them any less interesting to talk to or any more fun to hang out with. It’s all in the way that attractive people are perceived. People who are considered to be physically attractive have many more advantages in life than other people who are not. It’s not always fair but, unfortunately, it’s how us human beings think and act everyday.
Good physical appearance helps in building up flexible relationships. For example women who take care of their physical appearance manage to have a better relatio...
A relationship begins by being attracted to another person either physically or mentally. Physically, the way you dress, the way you smile, or the way you smell can affect the allure of yourself. You could be mentally attracted to someone because of how they think or how intelligent the person is. Once two people have a connection and start to find each other appealing that could lead to a
Sexual attraction refers to desirability as it relates to a sexual connection; individuals are sexually attracted to those they would perceive as a mate in some way. This attraction can be rooted in a variety of factors, including those both tangible and intangible. Sexual attraction often refers to physical attraction, or being aroused by a person’s physical traits. These can include appearance, smell, or voice. However, sexual
Physical beauty is merely an illusion of who someone’s true self and is always noticed first. There are countless examples of people being beautiful with a nice body yet a terrible person inside. When someone looks at a physically beautiful person, they often think of them as friendly and caring because their physical beauty is giving off an illusion to others. Although physical beauty is an illusion, people are attracted to physically beautiful people. When someone we think is attractive walks into the room, we are drawn toward them. However, this is only superficial because once you talk to a physically beautiful person and they are unkind, unwelcoming, and only worried about their appearance, most people do not want to be around them.
