In the 1930’s racism was a big part of the south and many whites thought they were superior over blacks. Though this may not have been fair almost every white person accepted this way of the society and this is shown in many of the characters in the movie.Unfortunately a well supported case much like this one was not supported by the members of the jury leading to a rough. In the movie To Kill a Mockingbird main character Atticus Finch is given the case to defend Tom Robinson a black man. This racial discrimination is all over this movie when it comes time for Atticus to step up to the plate and defend Mr. Robinson. Mr. Robinson was accused of raping Mayella Ewell with being a african american the case is soon lost and handed over to Mr. Finch to defend Mr. Robinson. Mr. Finch is a very experienced lawyer who is white which at the time was almost unbelievable that he’d defend a black man. Mr. Finch proves Mr. Robinson not guilty …show more content…

Atticus thanks Calpurnia subconsciously for the hard work she does at the house for his kids since he cannot keep up with all of it. After all he is a lawyer and tends to be busy and can’t always be home to make dinner and whatnot. Atticus doesn’t want the rumors of him liking Calpurnia anymore than a loyal friend and maid. This is a way to protect his case as well if these rumors go around they are fond of each other than the case at stake could be jeopardized since his case touches on the love/hate between Mr. Robinson and Ms. Ewell. The sheer fact behind it is society doesn’t seem it fit for a black to sit in the front of the car of a white owner so all this is done to secure the safety of himself and Calpurnia. Attention was already drawn to Atticus for taking the case with Mr. Robinson making extra precautions
