Atlantis was a continent of the Atlantic Ocean where, according to Plato, an advanced civilization developed some 11,600 years ago. Plato affirms that, as the result of a huge volcanic cataclysm of worldwide extent, this continent sunk away underseas, disappearing forever. Official Science - the one you learn at school - rejects the actual existence of Atlantis, as it has so far been unable to find any traces of its reality. Wat does the name Atlantis actualy means?
The first thing to keep in mind is that mythical terms have a number of different etymologies, and are often interpretable in different languages, into which they were adapted when the myths were introduced locally. For instance, Atlas means, in Greek, "the one who could not withstand." Atlas was known as the "Pillar of Heaven", that is, its support. When Atlas became overburdened, the skies fell down, burying Atlantis. The names of Atlas and Atlantis originally came from the Sanskrit, which is the Holy Language of India, name of their Hell called Atala. This word means "Deprived of its Pillar" or, conversely "Bottomless" or, rather, "Sunken to the Bottom". Many further derivations are yet possible. Atlas is the personification of the Holy Mountain that is the support of heaven. He is the god that the Hindus equate with Shiva, also called Sthanu, meaning "Pillar of Heaven" in Sanskrit.

Other writers, preceding or succeeding Plato, seem to refer to Atlantis indirectly and they often allude to a great island that were submerged in the ocean. Then, for centuries, during mediaeval age the subject was left apart and the name of Atlantis came back during 1500 and 1600. During Last two centuries small researches in all the world were made to discover Atlantis’ ruins, especially after Donnelly’ s best seller, but results are still poor and some clues were found accidentally (Bimini wall, for example). Gladstone, English prime minister, after reading Donnelly’s book, tried to arrange an expedition for finding Atlantis, but no one wanted to risk such a research. Doctor Ewing studied Atlantic Ocean for 13 years, but he never found anything and eventually concluded "Atlantis never existed".
However, by analysing Plato’s description on Atlantis we can try to get out the truth about Atlantis.

Shane Koyczan’s poem “Atlantis” demonstrates the teller of the poem going through an existential path, at the beginning of the poem the teller begins to look for the lost city of Atlantis. The poem’s first two stanzas both ended with “I’m left looking for Atlantis” (Koyczan) which can also be interoperated into I’m looking for a purpose; this show that the speaker is metaphorically looking for – the lost city within himself. This being shown through a series of significant events in which he inquires why things are the way they are, why we deposit our faith in fear or why don’t aliens hide from us better. He also talks about faith and how faith can’t put a dent in fact and by saying that it shows – fact has killed faith and if we believe that “the universe is never ending” (Koyczan) then by that we are nothing not even a microbe, which demonstrates how little he thinks of himself. Shane Koyzcan’s poem displays that through of significant experiences we can start to learn our purpose he shows this having the experiences he goes make him question the world around him. Atlantis

In the world we live in today, deviance happens to play an integral role in within the societies that scatter our globe, whether we like it or not. Deviance describes actions or behaviors that violate the social norms of our society. These behaviors can violate formally enacted rules, such as laws that are put into place by government, as well as the informal type of “guidelines” that various cultures have informally established and shaped for themselves. As one may come to understand, norms are essentially expectations that are standard to a certain culture. These norms gently guide people in a society in “what to do,” and “what not to do,” in compliance with their societies' norms. With this said, it is important to keep in mind that social norms differ from culture to culture. One act that may be considered deviant in a particular society, may be generally accepted in another. Three main sociological theories of deviance include the cultural transmission theory (also known as the differential association theory), the labeling theory, and the control theory.
Stonehenge, called the most photographed site in the world, draws nearly a million visitors a year, almost half of them from the united states (Wendy Mass 9) After Stonehenge has mystified an impressed generation of visitors and scholars who traveled to Salisbury plain in Wiltshire, England, 80 miles west of London, to marvel at the wonder of this ruin (Wendy Mass 8) but why is this ruin so magnificent? What draws so many people to it? Is it because the question of who built it and how it was built still lingers in the minds of many today. These questions have kept the mystery of Stonehenge alive for thousands of years, and the combined investigative efforts of historians, geologists, engineers, archaeologists, astronomers, chemists, and philosophers have continued to uncover more questions than answers (Wendy Mass 8)
Despite the fact that we have ever since tried to perfect the airplane, we have still relied on the technique used by the Wright brothers. It has been a fundamental part of the United States history to create such an object. The brothers had made our country more efficient from the 1800s to today. If we did not have the airplane today, it would become a struggle to vacation, to import/export, and to visit families from any part of the world. They have paved the road for other people to follow in their footsteps.
This means that negative deviance either choose to ignore, or do not realize that they are rejecting social norms. An example of negative deviance could be seen in the workplace. Leaving early, being rude, taking excessive long breaks, stealing from the company or coworkers, and lying about hours you have worked are all examples of negative deviance. While society values persons who are honest, and hardworking, some institutions rely on employees that are misleading and dishonest in order to get what they want, to work their way to success. If an employee is around people, or a company who is maybe known for their poor work conduct, poor decision-making, and very high levels of employee anxiety and employee stress, all these could very well make the person act
We live today in the societies which are shaped by rules and norms that must be follow. At the same time, people establish their own way to do things or not and when these people break or not respect the established rules, that’s is called deviance. According to Henslin “Deviance is the violation of norms (rules or expectations)”. I will define deviance as set of behaviors that are beyond the rules accepted by society or a group of people.
Behind every great structure in the world, there are the people who made them, and who took the time and effort to design them. Those who made Stonehenge succeeded in creating an incredibly complex and mysterious structure that lived on long after its creators were dead. The many aspects of Stonehenge and the processes by which it was built reveal much about the intelligence and sophistication of the civilizations that designed and built the monument, despite the fact that it is difficult to find out who exactly these people were. They have left very little evidence behind with which we could get a better idea of their everyday lives, their culture, their surroundings, and their affairs with other peoples. The technology and wisdom that are inevitably required in constructing such a monument show that these prehistoric peoples had had more expertise than expected.

Standing tall in Southern England, the Stonehenge is an arrangement of massive stones that form a circular geometry. No one knows who built it, but medieval tales say that it is the work of Merlin the Wizard, during the age of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. As time passed, it is said that the Romans were responsible for the building of Stonehenge. In more recent times, archaeologists have discovered who really might have built Stonehenge. Archaeologists and scientists now believe that Stonehenge was put together more than 4000 years ago, a long time before Medieval England or the Romans. Modern researchers have come to a new hypothesis: Stonehenge was built by people who lived around the time of the ending of the Stone Age. Although scientists and archeologists have come to some conclusions, no one really knows how this monument was erected. Over time the monument has endured some history, and has given humanity time to discover many things about this mysterious monument known as Stonehenge.
Archaeology is a continuously evolving field where there is a constant stream of new branches and excavation methods. Due to the influx of new technologies and innovations in recent decades, archaeologists have been able to excavate previously inaccessible areas. For example, new diving equipment and tools such as proton magnetometers, side-scan sonar, sub-bottom profiler, and miniature submarines have allowed archaeologists to dive into the deep depths of the ocean. As a result, the branch of underwater archaeology was created to search for shipwrecks and other artifacts on the ocean floor. Underwater archaeology’s role has increased in recent years as it allows archaeologists to more accurately interpret the past by supplementing information gained through traditional land excavations.
The Stonehenge at Salisbury Plains has been shrouded in mystery even before the time of Christ, but the truth of the matter is that nobody truly knows how this monument came to be. The origins of this monument range from logical theories to totally far fetched science fiction and middle age theories. This site has been around for over 4 millennia, but before the stones were even erected or on British land, it was used as a burial site. Then comes the weird theories, like Merlin from the King Arthur tales using his powers to move all of the stones into their formation or extraterrestrials coming down from outer space and giving knowledge to the ancient people in the area. Aside from these theories that lack any form of logical reasoning, the most widely accepted theory is that the monument was created as a religious shrine for the Druids of the area.
The first World War expedited the evolution of aircraft technology, which continued through World War II. These developments revolutionized military strategy and contributed greatly to the final outcomes.
Can you imagine a world without airplanes? There would be no fast and convenient way to travel around the world. In fact, the modern airplane is so integrated into our modern and faced-paced society, we would face detrimental problems without them. Thanks to Orville and Wilbur Wright, the invention of the airplane has immensely changed the world as we know it today. The contribution of the airplane makes the Wright brothers two of the most influential people in all of history. In the book The 100: A Ranking of Most Influential People in History, Michael Hart ranked the Wright brothers the 28th most influential people of all time. This ranking is very accurate because Orville and Wilbur Wright have dramatically changed the world in a plethora of different ways. First of all, Orville and Wilbur Wrights development of the airplane has affected the way the world travels around the globe. Next, modern airplanes and fighter jets have remarkably changed the way wars are fought. Also, today’s society has been affected through the massive airplane and air freight industry which adds billions of dollars every year to the world’s economy. Overall, the Wright brothers have irrevocably changed the world in a way that will forever be regarded as one of the most consummate and influential achievements of the 20th Century and all of time.
Plato gave the first and principal written account of Atlantis in his dialogues, “Critias” and “Timaeus”. In his description, Atlantis was a huge island located near the Straits of Gibraltar. In this island, there was a great empire which had flourished more than nine thousand years earlier. Atlantean residents had extraordinary intelligence. Their society was far more advanced than any other civilization at that time. The wealth of Atlantis was so unimaginable that even the walls were covered in gold. Furthermore, Atlantis had a huge trading network and a powerful navy. But with the passage of time, the Atlanteans became more and more arrogant, and they even wanted to rule the whole world. They were defeated by brave Athens soldiers. After that, fatal earthquakes and floods occurred in Atlantis; and in a single day and night, the island of Atlantis was swallowed up by the sea.
