The number 23 has been worn by many great players. The two great players who have worn this number are Don Mattingly and Lebron James, but when you think of the number 23 you don’t think about them. You think about the great, the champion, and the best player to ever play basketball. This guy’s name is Michael Jordan. Michael Jordan has inspired many others to achieve their goals too. Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. At a young age they moved to North Carolina. He had two brothers named Larry and James. These two brothers were so great to Michael and he looked up to them as role models. Jordan had loved the game of basketball and had been playing it ever since he was born. He would always ask his brothers to play with him because he was a competitor and always wanted to win. He stayed this way throughout his life. Michael Jordan’s jersey is an iconic American artifact; Infact, while he proved to be one of the best basketball players in history, he has became a leader and showed many people to not give up and to stick with your goals.
When Michael was in the tenth grade he got cut from his high school team and played junior varsity. He was very upset with the decision that the coach had made. He thought he was good enough to be a varsity player. Throughout the season on JV, Michael dominated. He averaged well over twenty points and had several forty point games. Michael Jordan is now 50 years old and is still living the life. After he got divorced, he got married to a new woman and now they are expecting a child. He was also selected to be an NBA all-star as he averaged 30 to 40 points per game. While when it came to Michael’s second year in the NBA he broke his foot early in the season and was forced to sit out. While having his year off from the game, he decided to go back to school to finish his final year of college. His 3rd year wasn’t all so great either as the Bulls had another losing season, but they still made it to the playoffs. Michael would also score 63 points to set an NBA playoffs record. As the 1989 season approached the Bulls had plenty of players to help Michael on the court. The Bulls would lose in the second round of the playoffs, though to an eastern powerhouse in the Detroit Pistons. As for the next three seasons, the Bulls would lose to the Pistons in the playoffs. The pistons had a great plan to keep Michael from being a terror on the court by something called the “Jordan Rules.” The Jordan Rules invented by the Pistons meant to rough him up or play him tough. Rhoden believed that Michael Jordan had the opportunity to change the world for the black man, and specifically the black athlete. But that was not the person Jordan wanted to be. Rhoden is hypocritical for pawning off the “one-on-one” idea of not being a team player but then shuns Jordan for clearly choosing that route. Throughout his professional career, Jordan kept changing the game and redefined the entire sport of basketball. However, in 2002, an aspiring athlete by the name of LeBron Raymone James, also known as King James or simply LeBron, immediately rose to prominence and caught the attention of the entire NBA community.
