Relax
Relax is a poster that is set on the beach. In the background of the painting you see a body of ocean that looks to be in a bay. There are five palm trees in the poster that looks to be swaying into the wind. Hooked onto two of the palm trees is a hammock. Below the hammock where the palm trees are embedded into the ground is sand, as if you are on a beach. The poster is in black and white. Below the painting on the poster is the saying “The poor long for riches. The rich long for heaven, But the wise desire tranquility.” There are no clouds in the sky so even though it is in black and white it seems to be a clear and sunny day. In the right corner of the painting on the poster there is a pier that is going out into the ocean. On the pier there is a light post hanging over

On the shore line behind the sand where it meets the water there are big rocks. Above the saying in big bold letters is the word “Relax.”
There is two visual elements that stick out to me are the colors of the poster and the way that the lines a shaped in the painting. There is only two colors in the painting which is black and white. The obvious ways that the colors are used is the white color is for the lighter things in painting and the black is used for the darker objects. For example the white color is used for the sand. Also it is used for the hammock that is tied to two of the palm trees. The sky in the background is white as well along with the ocean which has dark shade mixed into it to show the waves. Another white object in the painting is the lamp post which is hanging over the pier and the wood that the pier is made out of. The black color is used for the palm trees and the palm leaves that hang on them. The rocks that the water meets before it gets to the sand are also the color black. The other side of the bay
A old sandy color bridge is cast upon the middle of the painting, which is crumbling apart and crashing into the water. The water in this painting is dark blue and white showing the choppiness of the water. In the middle of the painting is a white statue with its head broken off, but still standing, holding a black shield leaning forward towards the center of the painting. In the background fire and gray and black smoke cover the landscape. The gray skies linger over the town with a dark depressing tone. While the river banks are roaring with fire. In the lower center of the painting is a woman dressed in white jumping to off the river bank with a warrior behind her. In the lower portion of the painting ships are on fire. Throughout the whole painting you will see thousands of people, some enemy warriors some townspeople. The enemy warriors are wearing red. While the townspeople are dressed in typical daily life clothing
Although the words are almost fifty years old, Gift from the Sea still speaks powerfully about humanity. Using metaphors of different kinds of shells she finds on the beach, she talks about solitude and the distracted lives we lead. Along the way, she shares meditations about life that are simple yet profound. She advocates a simple life that cuts out the excesses – the things that clutter and complicate our lives. “Simplification of outward life is not enough. It is merely the outside. But I am starting with the outside. I am looking at the outside of my life – the shell. The complete answer is not to be found on the outside, in an outward mode of living. This is only a technique, a road to grace. The final answer, I know, is always inside.” In her explanation of simplification, she explains that there are two types of rhythm – hectic and primeval. Hectic rhythm is when someone is une...
The size of the painting is 34 3/8 x 45 3/4 in. (86.5 x 115 cm). The height in proportion to the width shows that the painting is not proportional but it is not far off from forming a perfect square. The frame does not cut-off any of the people in the painting. The composition is centered and zoomed in to show what is going on. The composition is not simple but it is not complex either. The composition is not geometrically ordered. The people seem to be free and in motion. There is asymmetry throughout the painting. In the organization of the painting the objects appear to be crowded. There is not a lot of space between the people who appear to be fighting. The shapes of the people show that the mermaids are fighting a big guy and the placement of them shows unbalance. There are a couple objects presents. A total of three mermaids are presents including a triton and some objects are in the background represented by shadows. The sizes of the objects in the center of the composition are big compared to the ones in the background. A lot of emphasis is present in the center of the painting. The forms of the mermaids and triton are volumetric and a nice scenery is present in the background. The mermaids and trition are formed by contoured lines. Some of the lines are sharp and defined to show the natural curves on the human body and there is blurred out lines in the water to show waves and movements. The lines help give the painting a realistic feel to it. The lines are active in the reflection of the water. The color pallet present in the painting is soft with neutral warm colors. Only a couple different colors were used and the red color on the mermaid stands out the most. The neutral skin color is dominant because it is the color mo...
It is where people can enjoy the water splashing on the shore while they stand on the warm sand. Looking out upon the ocean helps create a sense of wonder because it appears to go on forever and blends into the natural sky. While soothing sensation occurs as the waves approach and splash on the beach. Through the use a focal point, which appears to be the small children in the red shirts, the artist evokes feelings from many viewers who have visited the beach before. This brings back fond memories for those who have spent countless hours as children swimming in the ocean and enjoying the beach. It also brings back times of being relaxed by the soothing sounds of the ocean waves as the come onto the beach. The artist uses the element of color to help bring out more positive emotion. The white tips of the ocean waves help make the painting appear more realistic, the red shirt brings out the warmth and enjoyment of being on the beach, and the blue background brings out the cool soothing emotions with the natural beauty of the water and sky. These color help connect the audience into being reminded of all the fun going to the beach
In the context of this essay power shall be defined as control over others, more specifically as represented in the chosen pieces of art, control over animals. In these three pieces, Bull Jumping, Late Minoan Period (5-5), Good Shepherd, Oratory of Galla Placidia, Ravenna, Italy (7-12), and The Unicorn is Found, The Hunt of the Unicorn tapestry series (12-9), the power shown may be power over animals, but actually represents power over most facets of life.
This painting was an oil canvas landscape of the sun setting in the horizon of the ocean sea, while the ships were sailing throughout the body of water. The focus on humanism during this period is clearly portrayed by the presence of the plowman, shepherd, and fisherman performing their daily task. Lighter colors are used, which differ from the darker colors that were emphasized during the Dark Age or Medieval period. Shadows can be seen on the ground next to the plowman showing the increasing artistic methods that begin to be utilized. Overall Bruegel makes use of the two and three-dimensional techniques to demonstrate the messages he attempts to reveal about changes in life and thought through his work.
One does not simply come to the city of Philadelphia without paying a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Visited by more than 800,000 people each year, the museum holds more than 227,000 art pieces and objects, including lot of European and American paintings, drawings, prints, and decorative objects. I visited the museum a couple weeks ago with the intention of finding an art piece that I can connect with to write a paper about it. It took me a while to actually find the piece that attracted me at the first glance- The Sheltered Path, an oil-canvas painting by the artist Claude Monet. Housed permanently on the first floor of the museum in Gallery 152 (Toll Gallery) which housed a collection of art pieces with the common theme: European Art from 1850-1900, the painting attracted me through its vibrant colors and its simplistic, yet meaningful beauty. The gallery also had other paintings by the same artist along with other artists who had similar painting styles. I chose this piece to write my paper on because I felt like I could relate to this painting because I could imagine myself being the main character in the story in the image. Claude Monet is also one of my favorite artists because I love the natural beauty of his impressionistic paintings.
This painting consists of regular lines as well as implied lines. Some of the regular lines that have been included are flowing, curved lines, such as the Earth that the woman is sitting on top of. Additionally, the background is made of small scenes that have been outlined by a dotted line, which places emphasis on the scenes. Besides regular and visible lines, there are a few implied lines in this painting. For instance, the woman's eyes are looking forward, so there is an implied line to the audience. Additionally, another implied line would be the woman's right arm, which is pointed towards her headpiece, while her left arm is pointed towards the earth. Nonetheless, this painting is not intense; although it does have splashes of color, this painting does not have a bright saturation. Instead, this painting is slightly dull, which makes this painting appear vintage. Additionally, since this background is a dark color, it makes the rest of painting, especially the headpiece, stand out. Besides colors and lines, even though this is a painting and there is no physical texture, there is invented texture. Upon viewing this painting, underneath the earth where the woman is sitting on, there are roots as well as grass, which give texture and feeling to the painting. In the end, this painting consists of several elements of composition, which Heffernan has done a wonderful job
There are several elements in this painting which may be difficult to interpret but may have meaning, such as; the headdress on the ground, the horse on the flag, the two men in different style and colored clothing, the smoke that appears much darker, and the two men pointing away from the scene, the wind direction being portrayed differently.
The painting was done by artist Emanuel Gottlieb Leutze. This was one of the best paint I came a cross in the museum as it helps to understand the Art work in painting. When we look the elements and principle of arts, are well presented in the painting. The first element we see is the Perspective; this the way in which artists create something that deceives the eye or mind on a horizontal level and relatively smooth. For decades, painters have tried to represent the real scene that existed in three dimensions on canvas. In addition, to create this perspective is to make the objects that are far away smaller than those that are closer to the viewer. The other way painter use to give depth to the painting is the sailor on the left who is digging his oar into mass of floating ice. Moreover, the soldiers in the distance appear to be smaller than the ones in the forefront boat that help the viewer to understand that the boat is nearer. The standing sailors in the middle of the boat are surrounded by light. This result keeps our attention of interest on the main aspects of the historic event: that founding father George Washington would become the first president and this event would culminate in the country's separation from the colonist represented by the American flag. Dark colors can often convey a sense of mystery or foreboding Light colors; and Intensity describes the purity or strength of a color. Undiluted bright colors are often associated with positive energy and heightened emotions.
The composition concentrates mainly on the foreground .It has three main points of interest, the small rowing boats, the artificial island and the floating barge .It also has a stretch of trees and foliage in the background painted in a much lighter fashion. Monet?s painting has a very different composition from Renoir?s painting of Grenouillere, which was done at the same time; Renoir?s painting is focussed much more on the artificial island and the people on it. Monet uses a combination of thick bold brushstrokes and small short soft brushstrokes; this creates a nice varied look and helps give a good impression of perspective. The tone is also very varied as it is Very light in some areas, but it is also quite dark in others, such as the shades on the barge. The use of dark shades in the foreground makes the boat look so realistic and quite 3D. Although the middle ground is flatter this helps add to the perspective. The water ho...
The beach offered a perfect spot to nestle in the warm sand and relax after swimming. In my childhood, I constructed sand castles. The water washed across the sand and formed little ripples on the beach. With my little hand, I grabbed the wet sand. The sand drizzled from my hands and formed the towers of drip castles. I would dig into the sand and carved out a small moat around the castle. After the night, the tide swept away the sand castles and the beach returned to its previous form. Also, I swung on the beach. While on the swing, I watch the sunset. The sunset formed a palette mix of pink, orange and brown. The blue waves of Lake Michigan stretched for miles beyond the sight of the naked eye. The Lake spread as far away as the ocean. I frequently wondered if anyone, except a superhuman could see the other side of Lake Michigan. A different activity on the beach was beach volleyball. As a child, I lacked athletics fitness but enjoyed the occasional beach volleyball game. Other people on the beach joined in the fray and people moved in and out the volleyball game. The memories of the beach hold a special place in my
The artwork that I picked out was by Edgar Degas Interior. It was created between 1868–1869 and can be found at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I picked this artwork because when I took Intro to Art in my freshmen year this artwork appealed to me because of its mysteriousness and agitation. When I looked at other works of arts by Degas I found this one very striking. There are no clear clues or answers to the questions that are raised when one looks at this work by Degas which makes it very unique.
Over period of last hundred years, A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man has attracted a multiplicity of interpretations. At times, critics have tended to focus primarily on the stylistic distinctions of this novel over the richness of plot and thematic significances. Harry Leviniiisees ‘A Portrait’ in the tradition of Kiinstlerroman. Others have attempted to find a close relationship between this novel and Joyce’s attempts to justify his own past. Reflecting this view, Richard Elmann writes, “To write A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man Joyce plunged back into his own past, mainly to justify, but also to expose it”. IV Partially amplifying similar view, J.I.M Stewart sees ‘A
Closer and closer to the calm water, I began sinking deeper in the sand. It was comforting, the silence, tranquility, and warmth of the faint sun. There is a slight breeze, warm, but cold and lonely. I could smell the scent of fish blowing through my hair and body. The sun was still fading, slowly but surely the day was almost over. About half of it is gone now. I could see shades of blue, red, purple, and pinkish-yellow. They were mixed with puffy clouds that lined the beginning of the sky and the end of the water. I noticed the darker shades on the bottom of the lower clouds.
