Arranged Marriage
Arranged marriage according to Merrian-Webster is, “a marriage in which the husband and wife are chosen for each other by their parents.” (Merriam-Webster. 1859.) That is the standard, average definition of arranged marriage, however, in different regions such as India, Indonesia, and even the U.S all take their own stance on what makes an arranged marriage. India is much stricter with the rules of selecting the mate, Indonesia looks at it to finally connect with another without disrespecting the family, and in the United States it is looked to make as many children as possible to keep the family tree alive. Along with the region, comes the religious aspect which creates a new face of what arranged marriage truly means to individuals. The views of Christianity in the U.S, Islam in Indonesia, or Hinduism in India, are the narrowed down religions that play a key role in each society. Some accounts of arranged marriage list it as the best source of happiness, while others not so much. There are many personal accounts out there to guidance the mental stance of arranged marriage. There is proof arranged marriage around the world caused a positive outcome for the couple, rather than looking for their own mate
Arranged marriages in viewed vastly different around the world, but they all lead to the same outcome which is a happy long-lasting marriage. All arranged marriages are based on a key factor of religion, if they two are not sharing the same religion they will not be wed. There are specific guidelines for marriages in different places such as India, Indonesia, and the U.S. All these places have different forms of religion which means diversified views on arranged marriage. There are studies with statistics that prove arranged marriage has led to more enjoyable marriages.
