Despite the recent strides women have made in becoming fully integrated into the United States Military, they still face daily opposition from those who perceive women as the weaker, more fragile gender. *not weak, not sexual objects, not an obstacle Possibly the most popular argument for limiting women’s abilities to serve in the military is that women are unable to meet the same physical standards as men. It is argued that the physical differences between men and women automatically place women behind men in the training process. Men naturally have stronger lungs, denser bones, leaner muscles, and larger hearts than women. Therefore, women supposedly begin training at a disadvantage and are unable to catch up. In fact, many believe that the disparity between the physical abilities of men and women only increases as they commence training (Eden). According to journalist Stephanie Gutmann, women are often unable to perform necessary military tasks, causing problems that “ripple outward, eventually affecting performance, morale, and readiness” (MacKenzie).
