There are very few things that effect your health more than the food you chose to eat. For this reason, many people choose to abstain from consuming animal products. This lifestyle is known as veganism. People choose veganism for a variety of reasons. Some, embrace veganism to express their love of animals and their belief in animal rights. For others, the health benefits are appealing. Veganism has been around for centuries, going back to Ancient Greece. Veganism, from its inception has been a controversial subject. Many educated professionals have argued for, or against veganism, and many philosophies have emerged on the topic. Those arguing against veganism, cite how humans were created to eat meat, or that we need meat for adequate protein. To start, the facial muscles of carnivores are reduced, and allows for a wide gape. This gape gives the carnivore the ability to use its mouth to attack, take down and dismember its prey. In contrast, humans have well-developed facial muscles, and a small mouth opening which is similar to herbivores. The motion of a human jaw also differs from carnivores. A human’s jaw motion has no shear, and there is a good side-to-side and front-to-back motion. Carnivores have shearing, with minimal side-to-side motion. Stomach acidity also differs between carnivores and humans. Human beings stomach acidity has a ph balance of 4-5, which is in line with herbivores.
