Censorship of information has been an issue since a beginning of humanity. Information created cultures, ideals, and religions. There have been many arguments for and against censorship specifically on the internet which connects people on a global scale. Many factors come into play when it comes to the filtering of the internet. On a national scale it comes with the violation of rights, the first amendment is the freedom of speech and the sharing of ideas. On a more global scale there is a list of issues, from causing a wider social gap, to the cost, to the limiting of resources, and the harming of businesses.
There is global debate on whether or not censorship is needed in order to protect and serve the people. While governments should decide their own terms, There should be a global agency that regulates offensive topics online because it connects people globally allow people to share ideas, it limits global citizens basic rights, and causes international issues. …show more content…

Censorship is also used to protects a country’s military or security secrets from its enemies. Due to this world governments have become more strict online not only blocking the extremely explicit but also social networks such as Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube. People have received fines, jail time up to life sentences for exposing the unjust doings of people in office
