During the late nineteenth century, the United States pursued an aggressive policy of expansion, extending its political and economic influence throughout the world especially Cuba and Hawaii. American imperialism is the most widely used type of expression used by the United States to describe a history of United States foreign policy actions and doctrines that demonstrate an unequivocal intent to interfere in events around the world that favor their own economic, political, and economic interest strategies.
American imperialism was seen in different ways the people who were in favor and those who were against it at that time. The people who were in favor like Josiah Strong who says on his book Our Country, that The Anglo Saxon is the top breed and this breed will spread all over the world, this powerful breed would descend upon mexico and from Central and South America. Another proponent that agree was a top U.S Navy officer and the President Mckinley. The U.S Navy officer says that the production is growing of the country and that makes the United States stay between the two Old Worlds and the two great oceans, makes the same claim. A very important person against was George F. Hoar and a group that was against American imperialism was also the American Anti-Imperialist League. George F. Hoar says that is not right for the U.S to get involved in the Philippines and try to govern them because they are a foreign nation and it is not up to us to do what we think is the best way. And the American Anti-Imperialist League says that we should not try to govern another country, because everyone has a right to life, liberty and the pursuit of joy and government destroy that
