Nuclear power, one of the world’s most talked about topic at the moment. The debate on whether nuclear power should or shouldn’t be used. Implementing nuclear power in most regions of the world would lead to cleaner air, a decrease in the rapidly increasing climate change. Also, a more reliable and efficient power source for the world. As well, it’s very safe, so we don’t need to worry about accidents occurring. The best way to go is to use nuclear power it’s obviously going to help out the world in many different ways that nothing else could compete with. Do you really think the world can survive with the amount of pollution in the air? Let alone any more from all the fossil fuels released into the air from the daily use of them? In the article Nuclear Power Safety Concerns it says, “...the need to reduce the use of fossil fuels in response to climate change, making nuclear more attractive…” (1) The use of nuclear power causes less pollution by reducing the use of fossil fuels that release greenhouse gases which creates global warming. In the article At U.S Nuclear Sites, Preparing for the Unlikely it says, “ More than 10,000 Americans a year die prematurely from the health effects of breathing emissions from coal-burning power plants.” (37) By using nuclear power …show more content…
In the article At U.S Nuclear Sites, Preparing for the Unlikely it says,”American nuclear facilities have backup power systems, and backups to those.” (7) The level of safety can be understood because as you read they have backups for the backup. In the same article it says, “Coal mining accidents in China kill an estimated 6,000 people a year, according to China’s Mining Ministry” (40). This shows that the use of coal creates many deaths. Nuclear power wouldn’t cause that and shows how safe the use of nuclear power is. If the use of nuclear power is safe, why not use
Nuclear power is a growing source of energy to most of the world for many benefits. People doubt the significant of nuclear power because of one accident. Due to this accident, the world has only seen the flaws in nuclear power and not the many benefits it has to offer. Nuclear power would benefit worldwide if people would let go of the past and look towards the future. Nuclear power is a better alternative energy because of its economic and environmental benefits.
Specific purpose: To persuade the audience that nuclear power is the best source of energy today.
There are many sources of energy today, and the best source of it is constantly being sought after, one source stands out above the rest. Nuclear energy is simple in theory, yet it may be one of the most controversial sources of power. Nuclear energy works using reactors built to split the atoms (nuclear fission) of the fuel to produce heat. This heat evaporates the cooling agent (usually water) into steam which turns turbines to create electricity. Nuclear energy should be allowed, because it produces an abundance of electricity, as well as being a clean source of energy with no harmful emissions. Nuclear energy is the future of clean, environmentally friendly energy.
Energy is undoubtedly one of the most important issues facing the world today. While fossil fuels may produce enough energy at a low cost, it also has severe environmental impacts on the world. Wind energy is a clean source, but is also extremely expensive to maintain. Nuclear energy may be the best energy alternative to coals and oil, with the ability to produce much more energy with relatively low cost, while also being more environmentally sound.
Nuclear power is a relatively new method of supplying the ever growing population with the electricity that is required. Although the majority of people are unsure of how generation occurs, nuclear power provides roughly 17% of the world’s power. (Rich, Alex K...) This makes nuclear power a deciding factor in how the race progresses in technology and energy fabrication as it is able to produce mass amounts of electricity in short periods of time. The limit potential for nuclear power is unclear in not only energy but also weaponry and some medical uses. The fact that uranium and the radioactivity that comes with it are used in facilities and other inventions often lead people to distrust the inventions which, while not entirely un-called for, hinders progress and leads to fables and tales around nuclear energy, its creation, and the nuclear power plants that are springing up around the world. This causes nuclear facilities to slow in their development which only makes things worse because as things progress the facilities will only get increasingly safe as long as they are handled professionally. (Rich, Alex K…) Some of the slanderous fables around nuclear power include things like claiming that nuclear facilities cannot operate during droughts and water shortages. (Kharecha, Pushker…) While nuclear power is accompanied by several risks, it can also be the solution for various global strains and difficulties.
...nce World War II to the present day, the technology of nuclear power has increased significantly in terms of energy output and safety. The energy efficiency of nuclear power is far superior to its counterpart fossil fuel and renewable energy. Compared to fossil fuels, tiny amounts of fuel used by nuclear reactors is equivalent to a large sum of coal. This is a no brainer. Why mine a ton of coal when a little uranium can be used to gain the same amount of energy? Not only is it efficient, it’s safe to use. Used fuel is packed away in storage safely, so there isn’t any chance of radiation leaking out. In the present day, nuclear power incidents haven’t been occurring lately. Advancements in technology and equipment used have made nuclear energy a very reliable and safe source of energy. With today’s energy needs, nuclear power has the ability to keep up in the race.
In conclusion, there are different opinions on the issue of the use of nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is only one of many energy options. Nuclear power can decrease pollution to the environment because it does not produce harming gases like other plants do. However, there are also drawbacks that can influences human health by emitting radioactive substances. Thus, all parties should make a deeper research and analysis based on the argument to decide the use of nuclear energy as a safe and cost effective source of energy.
The nuclear plants that are in the US today are much safer than the old plants that were built in the Soviet Union. Safety procedures and containment protocols for radiation are now the norm, and many safety measures are now in place. These steps to make nuclear plants safer for everyone are evidenced by the amount of nuclear accidents that have taken place since new safety measures have been put in place. There have only been three nuclear accidents related to power plants since nuclear energy has started being utilized around the globe. Nuclear power plants have been generating electricity for over sixty years and there have only been three incidents related to them.
On and off, could it be that simple? Energy is there whenever we need it, so we think. It’s not as simple as turning the light switch, replacing light bulbs, and paying the electric bills. Our energy today is made mostly from coal, natural gas, oil, wind, solar, and nuclear. With depleting natural resources, we must begin to consider what will power our future. Although there are many challenges yet to be encountered and technology yet to be discovered, many say nuclear energy is becoming a major part of our future. However, nuclear meltdowns and disasters have many people and scientists questioning the possibility of having a nuclear powered world. What are the concerns and positive aspects of nuclear energy today? Could nuclear energy become a part of our future energy source?
Atomic bombs and other weapons of mass destruction are devastatingly powerful. On August 6th, 1945, President Truman finalized his decision of dropping atomic bombs on Japanese territory. Walker explains the thinking behind the use of these weapons, and shows ultimately that this action of Truman and America is really complicated and there is multiple sides that are all legitimate in the depiction if it was necessary or not. To an extent, the use of these bombs was necessary to save many American lives, but it was not necessary when thinking just about vengeance for the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Walker also explains in the book, that there might have been other solutions in the war to bring it to an end, without the use of these bombs, and provides substantial evidence supporting these “solutions.”
The world is facing an energy crisis and many are unaware of this growing problem. Sustainability is avoiding depletion of our natural resources in order to provide for future generations, and the only way to ensure that resources are available into the future is to find alternative sources to meet the world’s energy needs. Nuclear energy is just one source of alternative energy being implemented today in an effort to support the needs of the population and mitigate global climate change. Nuclear energy holds the necessary benefits in order to continue being used globally as an alternative solution.
Nuclear power is the generation of electricity from an atomic reaction. (World Statistics: Nuclear Energy Around the World n.d.) Though it produces zero carbon emissions there has been a decline in support for nuclear power and increased its support for alternative energies in the pursuit for a fossil free energy sector. Factors that have resulted in the reduction of support for nuclear energy include nuclear accidents and waste and the positives of renewable energy which include clean energy, sustainable and reduced health and environmental risks.
Nuclear energy will always be a source for electricity. It has its pros and its cons but nuclear energy is reliable and it will always be available for developing nations. It takes time for countries to build power plants because it isn’t cheap. Also because of high radiation levels, people will always need to be careful when working around uranium because it can cause cancer. Power plants and nuclear energy will always be in use all over the world.
Media coverage of such cases have made the public less comfortable with the idea of moving further towards nuclear power and they only opt for reducing human activities to reduce global warming. It is true that there have been some notable disasters involving nuclear power, but compared to other power systems, nuclear power has an impressive track record. First, it is less harmful and second, it will be able to cater for the growing world population. Nuclear power produces clean energy and it delivers it at a cost that is competitive in the energy market (Patterson). According to the US Energy Information Administration, there are currently 65 such plants in the Unite States (National Research Council). They produce 19 percent of the total US energy generation.
Since the first and only nuclear bombs used in wartime were detonated, a debate on the ethics of the weapon has gone on and is no closer to a conclusion. The possibility of the use of an A-bomb or H-bomb has come up many times since 1945, but no country has decided to follow through. There are many reasons behind this, but they can all be summed up to one question; is nuclear war worth it?
