7th grade, F-block Zosia Krajewska Research-based Argument Essay Imagine a ton of overweight students, carrying their books, slowly walking down the hallway. Now, Imagine you are from a different school, come visit, and then look at those kids. Not a very pleasant sight. Wouldn’t it be so much better to see a group of smiling, sporty children, fresh and ready to learn? Well, guess what? Competition together with athletics is just what the school needs. Students benefit from playing competitive sports in school. They get lifelong skills! What about their improvement in Education? Or a higher fitness level? There are only benefits! Every sport is good for children. Plus, they spend less time on surfing the internet, slouched, ruining their eyesight.In schools, participating in sports is free, so why not get some exercise, compete with friends, and experience some sports adrenaline? The students’ fitness level is getting higher with the more sports that student participates in. In fact, there was a variety of studies was done all around the world that confirmed the above. For example, a recent, multi year study conducted by the American Heart Association revealed, that kids 30 years ago were 15% more fit than the ones today. That would mean, that on a mile run, they would be 90 seconds faster than than kids today. This study shows, that students need more exercise and everyone can clearly see this. The good thing, is that at the High School level, sports participation continues to rise. The National Federation of State High School Associations estimated that more that 7.6 million high school student, which is over 55%, played sports during the 2010-2011 school year. One may say, that some kids’ parents, don’t have enough mon... ... middle of paper ... ...o. Also, some people claim that sports cause kids to have a higher self esteem, because of all the running. They can get hyper, and not focus on academics. This is also wrong, because studies show, that competitive sports cause the pupils to have a lower self-esteem, because the kids run and get tired, so then they stay still, and actually focus. Also, students could get very badly injured. But how many injuries are there, compared to academic improvement? That is why all the cons are wrong? Plus, as mentioned before, academics don’t suffer. Kids will get fresher brains! The bottom line is that sports are a very good thing to have in schools. Those important, lifelong abilities would hold on to people for ever. Their academics WON’T suffer, but their scores will GROW, and their fitness level will grow, so they will live longer. Sports are part of the curriculum.
