Imagine walking into a classroom and your teacher is carrying a gun. Is this a hazard or a measure of safety? Every person has their own opinions, and everyone has their reasons, but if teachers have guns are students really safe? Teachers are hired to teach, not the be carrying a gun. If teachers have guns, they will have to learn to use them. How will teachers obtain these guns? Teachers should not be able to own guns in school because guns are too expensive, the laws could change, and the teachers could threaten the students. The government or teachers will have to pay for gun licences and the guns themselves. That is money being used towards guns that don’t have to be spent. Teachers will need a gun licence and bullets for the gun. On top of that teachers will need to be trained to use the guns. If teachers were given guns, then all teachers in the school would need one. Teachers would need to learn how to use the guns, they would need gun licences, a background check would need to happen, photos of them would need to be taken, fingerprinting, bullets, and guns. The price to have all of these requirement for teachers will be more money getting wasted. According to the Connecticut General Assembly, the price for a gun licence can range from “$5 in Hawaii to $200 in Oklahoma” The average price for fingerprinting, photos, and background checks are “$100”. The price for a 9mm gun can cost “from $250 to $400” The price for 1,000 bullets for a 9mm is “$149.80” $0.15 for 1 round. The price for gun training is around “$100 for two people for two hours”. In District 112 there are 604 teacher that come in contact with students throughout the day. To arm every one of those teacher, the amount of money would skyrocket. For two teachers in Illinois, the cost would be $1023.00 assuming you give each teacher 10 bullets. This cost is only for two teachers, and the cost for one teacher is $511.50. For the 604 teachers the cost to arm all of them would be $308,946.00. This is a bunch of money and the school wouldn’t be able to obtain all of this money. Students can get on teachers nerves, a lot. How would teachers deal with this know that they have guns right at their reach. Some teachers could get so aggravated and they could possibly threaten their students with their guns. According to Victoria Barrett of the Chicago Tribune, “4 out of 100 teachers have threatened their students over the student talking back or being rude to the teacher.” If 4% of teachers have threatened their students, who is to say that they wouldn’t use their their gun. If teachers have guns, who is to say they wouldn't use them against the students. 96% of teachers can be trusted, but how would people know which teachers can be trusted?
