Essay 1 Student debt has become a huge problem in today’s world and even the next generation to come. It has been popping up more and more in presidential debates, protests, Wall Street, and the news and media. A protest broke out in New York were “93 percent of them were advocated student-loan forgiveness” (Vedder). Currently the amount of student debt is over 1.2 trillion dollars. According to financial experts, the student debt loan bubble will eventually burst, causing more trouble than the housing bubble in 2008. It is evident that student debt loans are a big problem, but then comes the problem of who should pay? According to Carey, “years of greed, inattention, and failed policy have created a growing class of students” (Carey). Some students today think that the government should pay completely for them to go to college. They believe that the government is still reasonable for their education outside of high school. “According to a survey led by LendEDU, a student loan company, out of 500 students half of them believe that they would receive federal forgiveness for their loans after they graduate from college”(Lucas). This will not work for the government nor help the situation. The problem with this is why should the people who do not pay their loans receive forgiveness and the people who do, do not receive anything? If the government just starts giving money to the poor they become reliable on the government. Now it is not all the governments’ fault it was a choice that was made by an individual.
