Argumentative Essay On Nuclear Fission

The term “nuclear” might sound threatening, but we actually may use it in our everyday life. In the short video What is Nuclear Energy, they explain the basics of how this power is created. There are two types of processes that create the energy, nuclear fusion and nuclear fission. Nuclear fusion occurs when atoms are forced together to release energy. However, this process cannot be safely done, so the primary process, nuclear fission is used. Nuclear fission happens when atoms are split apart to produce energy. A stir of debate has risen recently as to whether we should use nuclear power as a main energy source or not. Mainly because of the potential hazards it has and the negative connotation that is brought with it. Yet the state of New Jersey relies on nuclear energy for 50% of its power, and the entire U.S for 20%. New Jersey should solely rely on nuclear energy because it is better for the environment, cost effective, and can be renewed. …show more content…

The energy produces less greenhouse gases that overheat our planet, which effectively fights our global warming issue. In source 2, it states “the amount of greenhouse gases have decreased by almost half because of the prevalence in the utilization of nuclear power. Nuclear energy has the least effect on nature since it doesn’t discharge any gases like methane and carbon dioxide, which are primary greenhouse gases.” Carbon dioxide and methane traps the sun’s heat into our atmosphere and while it is good in keeping us warm, too much of it causes a major problem. An opposing view argues that nuclear energy is harmful to our planet and can cause damaging effects to it. However, with the power sources we are using now - fossil fuels - we are already on our way to permanently ruining our Earth. The production and use of nuclear power has no harming cost to the Earth’s growing pollution
