Music has been used throughout the U.S as a way of therapy. Many children and even teenagers use music to enter a different world to get them away from any abuse or emotions. Doctors have used music as therapy as it helps patients relax and be calm. Music has also been used to help children with communication and health issues. Many doctors have found that music helps their patients be in a more comfortable position when they are injured or sick. Music influences the body and brain to enter into a state where reality is not a part of it. The rhythm of the music affects several areas of the brain simultaneously. The article “Educating children with autism” says “Over the past two decades, there has been accumulating evidence for the effectiveness of psychosocial programs for young children with autism. These tend to incorporate a mix of behavioral, developmental, and educational approaches, and although methods may vary, their general goals are to enhance cognitive, communication, and social skills while minimizing rigid and repetitive and other problem behaviors” (Lord and Mcgee). By putting music with actions, and with unchanging training, the brain pathways needed to speak can be strengthened and improved. A child with Autism communication becomes an obstacle. Not only does the child have difficulty knowing how to communicate, but often have difficulty finding the motivation to communicate because they become so involved in the world they created. A child with autism usually has a very active imagination, as a result they are always fantasizing. Music serves as a way to get the autistic child back to reality, but it also works in making them feel like they are still fantasizing and keeps them calm. When listening to music it can help the brain relax and decrease depression. Adolescents also go through challenges in their life ,for example one can be abuse. Abuse can cause an adolescent to act out, have issues with their health or communication. “In homes where the child is being abused, fear, instability, and confusion replace the love, comfort and nurturing that children need” (Yin-Ming).
