Medicinal Marijuana:
Foe or Friend? Medicinal marijuana has the potential to be a life saving alternative medicine for teens. Marijuana is a natural substance that is made of chemical compounds called Cannabinoids which are very similar to a chemical our bodies produce called Endocannabinoids. However, medicinal marijuana is seen by many as an unsafe alternative medicine that is potentially addictive. This thought pattern causes people to ignore the numerous medical benefits that medicinal marijuana can provide to patients. Many people say that dispensaries are set up only to sell marijuana rather than to help patients that are ill. “The entire Medical marijuana industry is a front sell marijuana to whoever wants it. Marijuana dispensaries are distasteful and they attract other businesses that are equally distasteful” (Szumski 56). This viewpoint is very stereotypical and there may be a few dispensaries that do only care about selling their product but for the majority that is not true. Also the job of the dispensaries is not to be the doctor and help patients their job is to dispense their product and they should give out medical advice that is relevant to their product like what type of marijuana may be best suited for certain customers. Another stereotype about dispensaries is that they are all fronts set up to make money for large corporations rather than to sell an effective alternative medicine. “Worse, many dispensaries are clearly set up as fronts to sell marijuana not to help ill patients seeking a valid treatment”(Szumski 54). Once again this fact may be true for a select few dispensaries but for the majority dispensaries jobs are to sell their product and supply their consumers with ample knowledge about the product that they are buying and how it can benefit them
