The LGBTQ: To Be or Not to Be? “Race, gender, religion, sexuality, we are all people and that’s it. We’re all people. We’re all equal” (Connor Franta). These words, spoken by writer and entrepreneur Connor Franta, express that difference doesn’t translate as being inhuman. Rather, this is simply a variety, a diversity of human nature. There are many organizations dedicated to spreading these words, but perhaps the LGBTQ has had the most difficult time gaining acceptance and rights in our harsh society. The LGBTQ -- which stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer -- is an organization that works towards rights and freedoms for the people in this unique population. This group should have the rights that they deserve, because homosexuality does not go against religions, but is, perhaps, a part of them. Furthermore, couples of the same gender should have the right to marry, as well as social and political acceptance. Of course the famous argument is that homosexuality does not favor religions and vice versa, but that is not the case. According to Francis DeBernardo of New Ways Ministry, the church “fears associating with LGBT people -- a fear which is contrary to the gospel” (New Jersey priest is suspended for supporting LGBT rights). Many are not open to the idea of homosexual rights, but President Trump is. In fact, Trump is the very first Republican nominee to be for the rights of the LGBTQ, rather than against them (Holbrook). An important point in his support is that he would like to bring forth this organization in society to gain more acceptance. For instance, President Trump believes that transgenders should be given the opportunity to use the bathroom of the gender they identify as. Although the U.S. President believes the LGBTQ should have equal rights, there are many others who do not
