10. Health and Its Determinants Several factors combine to affect the state of health of persons and communities. Whether individuals remain in good physical shape or not, is dependent on their status and environment. Some of these factors can be grouped into the physical environmental factors, socio-economic determinants and the personal attributes /characteristics and behaviors of the individual involved. People are unlikely to stay able to unswervingly regulate a lot of the determining factor of health. These determining factor—or situations that make individuals healthy or unhealthy—comprise of the previously identified factors, and several others. For instance, higher salary and societal status are associated to enhanced health. The grander the gap existing between the wealthy and the poor people, the bigger the variances in health. We believe in acquiring quality education, housing and living conditions. This have affected our health and health behaviors in several ways .We are all up to date with our immunization schedules and in fact, one of the fringed benefits of where I work is a healthcare insurance coverage for the whole family. This would not have been possible or affordable if we belonged to a lower societal status and as such, it is not taken for granted. Social Context There are more or less some facets of socioeconomic factors that are associated to health. For example, children living in substandard houses built long ago with materials containing lead are likely to ingest this substance which have been identified to contribute to truncated mental functioning and arrested physical growth.
