As election day creeps forward, I start to think about how lucky or in a sense not so lucky I am to have this be my first time voting. People could look at me and say that I am lucky because I get to vote for the first time and voting is a such an honor that we possess as Americans. On the other hand, I may be not so lucky because this is “the most important election” of my life this far and there is not one candidate that is clearly better than the other in my eyes. As election day moves closer and closer, I hope to keep educating myself on each candidates position on important topics.
As an American, I look for certain characteristics, traits and views that the presidential candidate have at the time. I have learned about all of the candidates mainly through research online and by watching the presidential debates and the vice presidential debate. Obviously there are two candidates to focus on but, mine has been on Donald Trump. Donald Trump is known for multiple things like being racist, making rude comments towards women and wanting to “build a wall”. This has made his views on issues very interesting which is another reason why I am focusing on them.
There are at least 2 million convicted criminal aliens currently inside the United States and the current immigration policy costs taxpayers about 300 billion a year. For the past 15 years or so there have been 380 foreign-born individuals who were convicted in terror cases inside the United States. Trump plans to build a wall that Mexico would pay for along the southern boarder that would be impenetrable and the work would begin on day one. There are about 200,000 illegal immigrants in Mexico. Before May 2011, illegal immigration is considered a felony under the Mexican law and is punishable by up to two years in prison. However, on May 2011, President Felipe Calderón signed a new Migration Law which guarantees that foreigners and Mexican citizens will be treated equally under the law. Moreover, it decriminalizes undocumented immigration, reducing it to an administrative infraction.

In the United States we are all guaranteed one vote per person. Everyone has an equal voice in electing the people that serve in the government. Every four years during the month of November citizens of America go to the polls to vote for a president and vice-president of the United States. Am I right? Not really. They actually vote for electors that then vote for our president. It makes me wonder, "Are we a democracy?" Having the Electoral College defeats its purpose. I oppose the electoral college for these three reasons, in election 2000 the president that lost the popular vote actually won, everyone's vote doesn't really count, plus the electoral college has disrupted elections fifteen times!

He cannot be stating all the Mexicans because not all of them are drug dealers or killers. “I will build a great, great wall on our southern border and I will make Mexico pay for that wall,” If he wants to make a big wall so any Mexicans can enter and make them pay for it that’s just stupid Trump is the one that wants the one he should be the one paying for something he wants. This wall is not going to stop Mexicans from coming to the U.S; they can still come in a plane of by sea. He says he wants to built a wall, than if he is paying where will he get all that money just to make stupid wall, the U.S has no loose money to give out to put the wall up.
Coyotes and Human Trafficking has an immense impact on both America and Mexico. With the increase of border protection, comes the increase of ways to get to america. The Mexicans just want a job and a happier place to be. There is no reason why we cannot let them come into our country. At first when seeing Electoral College in high school, I thought it was a place that you go to school. Silly me, I didn’t know anything about the government and how it was ran or what makes up the government. I really didn’t start learning about the government until the 10th grade, when I took American Government with Mr. Evans. If he never did anything else, he made sure that we knew about the government and how and why it was ran the way it was ran.

Every four years our nation votes for the next leader of our nation; however, it is not really the citizens of our nation but rather the Electoral College who chooses the President of the United States. The United States and Mexican border has been the focus of an abundant amount of controversy the past decade in the States. The border wall, or border fence, is one of several barriers preventing illegal Mexican and South American immigrants from entering the United States. However, as statistics prove, immigration and drug smuggling has been on the rise the past few decades and our “three prong approach” is not confronting the escalating issue at hand. America’s border security is not resilient enough to deter these illegal immigrants and drug smugglers; our border wall must be fortified immediately.
People often times single me out for being a christian. They just love asking me about touchy subjects to see my response. And this is because, unfortunately, there are so many christians who have this idea that the whole world needs to see things the same way they do. You see so much hate coming out of a religion that claims to preach peace and love. Christians see it as protecting the bible but it just comes across as ignorant. I am not saying I don’t share in the opinions of many christians, but more than anything I am saying that christians need to learn that not everyone in the world is going to see it the same way they will. When it comes to sin, same sex marriage, and living a holy life there are more than one opinion on what is right. So, you can’t justify all of the hate-acts in the name of your religion. Instead use all that energy you waste on hate to love and help those around you, despite whether you think they are “right or wrong”. I believe that that’s what God is more concerned about.
Politics is one of the most debated topics in the country today. With the wide variety of values present in America, it is bound to be a difficult topic to discuss. I’ve grown up in a family of democrats with religiously republican grandparents. Considering myself an Independent leaning democratic, I can usually calmly talk politics with my family. This year’s election has made any conversation surrounding politics toxic to my family and creates a large argument of one side or the other and no in between.
