Audioslave, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, Mad Season, and Alice Mudgarden all have one thing in common. Chris Cornell. He is the father of grunge rock, and played a vital part in several bands. I chose him for this project because I truly admire his work and his voice. The contributions he made to music were (and are still) unparalleled. He had a strange soul, and making music was effortless for him.

Chris Cornell unfortunately passed away at the age of 52, on May 18, 2017. According to Jeff Ament from Pearl Jam, he was the best songwriter of all time. He says “Chris had the songwriting chops that we all sort of hope to get to… He was a beautiful wordsmith” (Source 1). Not only was he great at writing songs, this man had a voice that was extremely recognizable. “Not many people have that many options with their voice” (Source 1). Whether he was singing in Sound Garden, or Audioslave, his voice was so distinct. The lyrics he wrote, and the voice he had, spoke to people. He wrote about pain, and that shone in his writing. Pearl Jam and Soundgarden drummer said “My dark knight is gone.” People viewed Cornell as a foundation for the alternative rock era. He is widely known in the rock culture, and now even pop culture. His death sent shock waves through the rock and roll community. Tributes have been played by bands such as Coldplay, all the way to The pretty Reckless, Aerosmith, and Stone Sour. He was loved by many, and looked up to as a role model by many more.
