Becoming A Pirate Piracy has had a significant impact on our society. However, trying to justify what an act of piracy is and what is not, is tricky. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 16th century privateer with a letter of marque or a person uploading files to The Pirate Bay. The question is why would someone resort to piracy in the first place? The answer is because of three simple human needs: money, freedom, and necessity. When these essentials are violated people will turn to anything to survive. Understanding the reasons behind piracy will help us to justify what is considered an act of piracy.
