Some dog owners are refusing to vaccinate their dogs because of an unsubstantiated claim by a few celebrities about a link between vaccinations and autism in children, and dogs. Science has disproven the relationship, yet the myth persists. Despite the vaccination link, many veterinarians say they have never diagnosed autism in a dog. Many research scientists also dismiss the notion that canine autism even exists. But one celebrated veterinarian, scientist and pioneer in the study of obsessive-compulsive disorder in animals, has unearthed provocative evidence that shows there may be some truth to ASD in dogs, and it has nothing to do with vaccinations.

Because autism presents differently in individuals, your dog may be able to socialize with some other dogs or only specific ones. If not, he has you for a best friend and many dogs who are not autistic live full lives not ever socializing with other dogs. However, if your dog has a failure to bond which is common in autism, it is more challenging but doable.
With her interest and activity level restricted by the disorder, your dog may not be up to a lot of fun stuff like other dogs. It seems sad when she won't chase after a ball or jump for a Frisbee but try to appreciate her own unique personality. Once you recognize the limitations of the disorder, you can work around it to find ways to keep her engaged and as happy as she can be. Every day won't be as exciting as it is for many dogs and their owners, but you can work out a plan that builds a mutual bond and delights both of you, even if her response is a little low-key.
