June 2012, I ask my co-worker Ben for a ride home from work couple hours before clocking out and he agreed. 3o’clock we get in the car heading south on Biscayne Blvd and 147 Street. Several cars are driving very slow due to the slippery roadways from the rain earlier that afternoon. we’re laugh and talking about how it was a hectic work week for the both of us. I look down on my phone to reply to a text message. Before I know it, we’re involved in a car accident. The other driver involved was not paying attention to the traffic signals and failed to stop at a red light. At the rate, we were going and the slippery roads cause Ben to spin out of control as soon as he hit the brakes it was too late. Thank goodness everyone involved were wearing their seatbelt, as it was a habit for me to put it on every time I get in a car. Fire responders arrive on the scene and took one look at the car and said that we were lucky to only have walked away with just some scraps and bruises. Many people believe that wearing a seat belt can kill you, while you would live if not wearing one. This is not true at all. A seat belt will stop you from banging up against something inside the car, and keep you from being ejected outside of the car. For the people who use the excuse that I’m no going very far just around the corner. Should know that about 70 percent of fatal car accidents happen within a 15-mile distance from your home. Even if it’s to go up the block there’s never a wrong time to put on a seatbelt. Everyone knows that seatbelts save lives because during a car crash there’s only two options but people choose not to which results in several thousand traffic accidents yearly. many people could prevent fatal accidents if only they would wear a seat
