In today’s society, it seems though as if everywhere you go you’re either being stereotyped or you might find yourself stereotyping. While this is a very negative habit, it has somehow managed to weasel its way to become socially acceptable. Hence, we can find ourselves in a dangerous path when stereotyping is becoming acceptable. The affects of stereotyping can lead to many false assumptions. There are many other reasons why society should move away from stereotyping each other. Although, stereotyping could be considered a natural instinct, it should be something to try and avoid. People often tend to stereotype without even realizing, this is the sad truth that has taken place throughout the years. This is something that might not ever come to an end. When someone stereotypes they tend to do it based off appearance, character, or even cultural background. One of the main problems of stereotyping is by race/racism, which we see taking place in schools, workplace, or in your community. People often tell jokes with racist slurs, and people often do this without realizing the effects it could have on an individual. People are considering stereotyping to be “normal”. This mentality plays a major role in why stereotyping might never go away. People tend to use stereotyping to be able to differentiate the good people from the bad. This causes them to already have their assumptions of what a person is like, without ever getting to know them, this creates a distortion of how every individual should be. We as a society need to learn not to judge and prejudge about people because of what we think they should be like. Stereotypes categorize people based on their culture, religion, or country.
