Experience of Love In “Araby”, James Joyce tells the story of a young boy, who starts having a crush on his best friend’s sister. He lived across the street from them. He never thought he will have the ability to speak with the girl. Until one day Mango’s sister asks the young boy whether he is going to Araby, she noted that she can’t attend the bazaar because she is committed to a retreat. He was so blown away and shocked from the conversation. He offers to buy something for her from the bazaar. He ends up being late and he was not able to afford anything with the money he has.The central idea is that a young man's struggle with enormous feelings of attraction to a girl can lead to a strange obsession. That wouldn’t allow the reader to go into the characters mind and really understand the conflict.In the beginning of the story we see the narrator describing his neighborhood and house, as being “blind”, cold and silent with a dead end at the street. The author describes the street in terms of vision. And the “blindness” desbcribes the people who are blinded by religion. Then we see the narrator reveals the challenges of a young man becoming a teenager. He describes his obsession for her when he sits by the window for hours just to get a glance of her or when he tries to walk behind her as much as he can on the way to school. “.. Her words and gesture.. ..Like fingers running upon the wires…” ( ) the author’s use of vivid and detail description shows the strange obsession he has for a girl he barley knows. When her bracelt moved as she talked author uses another example to show the readers the young boy notices everything about her. The task to fulfill a promise he made to her to win her over creates the feeling of a happy love story for the readers. He has a great image how his day at the bazaar will turn out.
