In the short story, “Araby” written by James Joyce, it tells the story of how a boy was awakened to see how different the world is than how he sees is in his head. This story is full of many different outlooks. The boy seems to be pure and so does Magnan’s sister. The priest in the story on the other hand was basically living another life outside of being a priest that wasn’t so pure, as priesthood should be, due to the collection of sexually suggestive stories that were found in his room. The boy’s uncle, which was the only male role model that was a live for him, was a drunk and an untrustworthy man. Then when he ends up falling for the girl he stops being friends with them, which basically takes his innocence away. The girl is most definitely changes the way that the boy sees everything in the world. After he has an encounter with he his life is forever changed. He starts to believe that she is his love. Even though the girl is never named in the story but the boy says, “She was waiting for us,” “I had never spoken to her, except for a few casual words, and yet her name was like a summons to all my foolish blood.” She is always on his mind and he can’t seem to focus on things that go in everyday in his life because she has taken up all if his thoughts. He protects her from all of the bad intentions that happen in life. The boy becomes lost in his thoughts eventually due the fact that the girl is always on his mind. He eventually finds himself in tears because he is worried if he could actually gain up enough courage to go up and talk to her ever. The girl asks him a question but he was just so in shock that he was actually talking to her that he didn't even know how to respond to her question. He even forgot whether he had answered he question with a yes or a no. Her presence was a big part of his imagination that he could barely even talk to her in person due to the fact that she was entangling all of his thoughts.
