One of the turning points in the Cold War that led to the end of the war was the space race. The Cold War was a war without a war. Instead of fighting an actual war the United States(US) and the Soviet Union(U.S.S.R.) fought by trying to be the more dominant and more successful country than the other. The Apollo 11 space mission was one of the turning points of the war. Some of the major parts of the mission was the preparation, the main goal of getting a man on the moon, and the landing. Going to the moon doesn’t happen in a second, you need some preparation and a plan for the whole thing. The whole mission costed 25.4 billion dollars which is equivalent to 161.5 billion dollars today. That money was used to complete experiments and of course buy the equipment for the rocket ship. 10 years before the mission NASA was experimenting with new technology. 52 experiments took place for only 10 missions. The official mission objective was to complete a national goal set by John F. Kennedy. It was to perform a crewed lunar landing and return to Earth. Additional goals included scientific exploration by the lunar module, deployment of a television camera to transmit signals to Earth, deployment of a solar wind composition experiment, seismic experiment package, and a laser ranging retroreflector.
