Antigone Compare And Contrast

As a director I intend to show the contrast between Antigone and Esmene, in the opening scene, by the way they deliver their lines, movement, facial expression and body language. Antigone is speaking to her younger sister Esmene, Antigone’s line is “Just say you will help me. Commit yourself.” I would tell Antigone to face Esmene when saying “Just say you will help me.” because she is pleading with her. I would place Antigone on one end of the stage standing up and Esmene on the other end sitting down with her back turned away from her, to symbolise them drifting because of Antigone’s dangerous decision. Antigone would deliver her line with a soft and gentle tone, to make her sister feel more comfortable and less fraught about the situation.
