Animal Testing: Limits of Science

A limit of science is when science is being pushed to the absolute extreme, in order to pursue a better condition. However, sometimes scientists push these limits too far. An example of this is animal testing, animal testing is being used all over the world right now. Mice, rats, guinea pigs, fish, birds, rabbits, primates, cats, and dogs are the main sources of animals that are currently being tested. (ProCon.org, 4). Evidence suggests that animals are being put in cages and labs and are being brutally treated. Animal testing has a harmful impact to the environment due to the false ideas, cruel and inhumane punishment; and alternative methods available.

Many have false perceptions of what animal testing really is and does. Scientists are using our animals to test the safety of products such as drugs, cosmetics, household cleaners, food additives, and pharmaceuticals, but are not keeping these creatures safe while doing this (Humane, 1). It is not a simple blood test that is then taken into the lab and studied, it is a much more lengthy and gruesome process. This type of treatment to the animals does not put them in the right condition to be used for scientific data. There are few people who actually know how harmful animal testing is. Imagine you, your friends, and your family being forced to live in a cage for your whole life, being poked with needles, burned, and poisoned. They have oozing boils and bare fur spots from where they get poked by needles. Malnourished and hungry, then the other half of them die and are killed for dissection. They do not get fed well or treated right, so who is to say the data collected is correct and
