Animal Service Project

For my service project, I became a vegetarian for one month, and volunteered at the Humane Society of Utah, an animal shelter located in Murray. First off, becoming a vegetarian was much harder for me than I thought it was going to be. Prior to this project, I hadn't really noticed just how much meat my family was actually eating, so cutting it out my diet was somewhat difficult. For the first week or so my family was pretty helpful, and they ate and aided me in cooking my dinner almost every night. Nonetheless, after a while they got sort of tired of it, and ate vegetarian meals with me less and less often. I’m additionally going to make sure that I use products that are not tested on animals. I didn't realize before how often companies use animal testing, and caged or factory farming meat, and I’ve already started switching out some of the brands that I’ve been using. I previously thought animal testing was highly unpopular as I figured we are in the 21st century, but I'm glad I did my research so that I may help animals lead better lives. Speaking of helping animals lead better lives, volunteering at the Humane Society has been one of the best experiences of my life. I’ve always had a passion for animals, especially dogs and cats, and I’ve also always wanted to volunteer my time at an animal shelter. This project was a great reason to finally put that dream into motion, and get to work fulfilling it. The animals in shelters are all in desperate need of help, even more so than I thought, and since I’ve started volunteering my time there, every chance I get I encourage people to adopt or volunteer, as we could use as many hands as we can get; the work never ceases to keep
