Animal Cruelty: The Pros And Cons Of Animal Testing

For years on end scientist have been using animal for testing of beauty products, ointments, medication, and other products people use in their everyday lives. This is argumentally a very sensitive topic that comes with a lot of debate. There are two sides of this topic, one being the scientist and people that see no harm in using animal when testing products. The other side being animal activist or people that see animal testing as animal cruelty. Personally, I am the type of person that sees animal testing as animal cruelty. There is a lot of information that supports my belief that animal testing is animal cruelty. According to a procon.org, there are many way that animals experience animal cruelty by being tested on. One such According to Paul Furlong, a scientist professor at Aston University, claims “It’s very hard to create an animal model that even equates closely to what we’re trying to achieve in the humans” (Should Animals be used for Scientific or Commercial use, Procon.org). Animals just don 't match up to humans anatomically, metabolically, or cellularly. Not to mention that if humans were to be used in the testing instead of animals, it would be strictly voluntary. People would sign up to get experimented on of their own free will so not rights would get violated. On the contrary, some say animals are better test subjects because they have such a short life span. For example, mice only live to be two to three years old. Because of their life span is so short, it allows researchers to see the effects of the treatment over a whole life span (Should Animals be used for Scientific or Commercial Testing, Procon.org). Personally, I do not think this is an effective method because they are only seeing the test results after two or three years.
