Cooper uses anecdotal evidence in her essay, because it strengthens the essay and it gives the reader and personal experience to be able to visualize the theme or plot of the essay. Giving a personal experience adds credibility to the essay and people will be able to relate to the writer. The great depression was a very sad and hard time. This was a time where people had little money, no available jobs and just had a hard time with everything. Many people had nd any way to make money whether it was cutting kid’s hair in neighborhood, picking fruit, selling iron cords house to house or even painting a house for 5 dollars. Even though this was a very hard time some people still had hope that things would get better. This was a really bad time until Franklin Roosevelt who was for the government supporting the Americans and not the other way around became president.

Krakauer intends to reveal Christopher McCandless’s character and nature by interacting people who influenced him. The more people were attached to him, get to know more about him in depth; those who know him from outside often refered him as careless. In the book Into the Wild Krakauer presents McCandless as modest and caring person whereas other may see him as thoughtless.
Polly cooper was an Oneida woman from the New York colony. She was born around July 21st, 1794, in Jefferson County, Tennessee, USA. Polly Cooper’s family is mostly unknown, but she had lots of people around her who cared about her. Her parents were Meredith and Ambrose Cooper. Polly Cooper had a big impact on the Revolutionary War because she traveled to feed many soldiers. She took part in an expedition to aid the Continental Army during the American Revolution at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania during years of 1777-78. Without Polly Cooper, and the other Oneida people, the soldiers of the Revolutionary war might not have made it, and the outcome would be different.
In Christopher Gillen’s chapter “The Data Suggest” in “They Say/I Say: The moves that matter in Academic Writing”, Gillen (2010) addresses to the readers his rendition of the correct way to present scientific writing. He first explains that in order to convincingly portray the author’s point about the scientific issue that they either agree with, disagree with is to begin with the data. He states , “Data are the fundamental currency of scientific argument” (Gillen, 2010, pg. 204). Meaning, in order to appear knowledgeable and to open an argument at all, the data, including their numbers, methods and conclusion, from previously existing theories and from the author’s own experiment is crucial to present in the writing. The scientific method is used every day in our lives. We use it to make large and minute decisions, alike. The process is so quick that we use it without knowing. The process starts with a question or an issue, and ends with a solution or more questions. The issue that we will try to address using the scientific method is the reliability of eyewitness testimony. I believe that eyewitness testimony is far less reliable than other forms of evidence in a criminal investigation. An example of this is when the author claims that when the author told us about how his twin daughters that were both in cheerleading and both of them broke something in their body. Another example that the author does a good job of making an argument is when he claims that they give football players helmets and 30 feet in the air the cheerleaders are doing the flips and that is just as dangerous as football is. This is evident when the text states, “ It's crazy, isn't it? We have girls building three-story human pyramids, flipping one another 30 feet high in the air, and we give the boy's helmets.” The author’s reasoning that it isn’t safe to not wear helmets does do a good job of supporting the argument because he has good evidence and he has good quotes from other people talking about how
A man named Bilal Nasir Khan once said, “The most painful goodbyes are the ones never said and never explained”. In the poem “Changes” by D. Ginette Clarke, the speaker is eager to understand the reasoning behind the end of his friendship with someone who he seems to have been very close with. As one reads through the poem, the strong connection that the persona feels between him and his friend becomes quite obvious. Granting the persona’s endeavour to express his feelings towards his failed friendship in a calm manner, he essentially comes off as a curious, eager, and desperate man. Clarke represents these specific characteristics of the speaker through the use of repetition, word choice, and punctuation.
By displaying a solution or feature the author is now able to begin influencing their audience. This influence can usually only be accomplished by making the solution practical, attainable, and necessary for the reader. Parks does this in several ways throughout the article. Parks begins his explanation of the benefits of annotation by creating a visualization of the act of utilizing a pen by writing “There is something predatory, cruel even, about a pen suspended over a text. Like a hawk over a field, it is on the lookout for something vulnerable. Then it is a pleasure to swoop and skewer the victim with the nib’s sharp point.”(par. 8). This visualization creates a sense of action, control, and results over your aggressor. This incites a new emotion into the reading that forces you to perceive his solution and views as positive. The author is aware that absorbing the information with emotion instead of facts is far more effective at changing an opinion or inspiring action. There are several more paragraphs of various benefits to further solidify his solution. Parks then identifies a common objection which he identifies with. He provides a solution for this as well; thus, leading us to believe he Is being objective. Upon completion of the article Parks successfully persuaded his readers
Using the author’s field research I felt that many of them tried to enter their situation as an outsider looking in as most researchers do. Given time most of them were able to some what be accepted into their social surroundings. No matter what role or relationship the researchers developed along the way they still had to make choices to would affect their data in different ways. They just had to pick the correct approach and apply it. Finally all stories proclaimed different discussions of social science by using different forms of "objectivity" and "subjectivity."
