The first idea to come up in the head of an average person after being asked about the birth of the democracy is the fact of it having Ancient Greek origins. Moreover, very well-known city-states, such as Athens and Sparta are often associated with the beginning of the modern society; notwithstanding the significant role of the Ancient Greek alphabet creation is not usually understood. According to a big number of researchers, this invention brought the whole new attitude to the people of our world, including the creation of a democracy and a philosophy.

It was not just used by the small group of people, typically bureaucrats, which usually happened in the Bronze Age of Greece (in Mycenae, for example), but by at least all the male landowners. It was often used to write jokes on vessels that were used to drink wine during the symposiums, which were basically some kind of parties. The fact of being able to write something by yourself was a privilege, that everyone wanted to have. Therefore, the spread of the alphabet through writing the names or jokes on the cups happened much more quickly, than we usually imagine (Eric Powell, 2017, Vol. 70, Issue 3). The language gave not only the opportunity to write jokes, but it also made people able to write things, that they were unable to keep in mind. The spread of the alphabet usage made people able to create not only the basic stories, which are not needed to be remembered precisely, but difficult to understand and, therefore, to remember, philosophical thoughts. It was the freedom people in Athens needed, because there were not enough ideas in mythology for them to explain the world around. This is one of the reasons of the prosperity of Athens; the lack of this freedom is commonly told to be one of the causes of the Mycenaean civilization, where the language was not used for that purposes. Moreover, with the quick spread of alphabet people received the ability to negotiate and create laws, to carry out surveys of some kind. This brought the idea of the importance of a single person to an ancient world, which created the society close to one we have today in many countries. Not only it changed the way of a development of Ancient Greek culture (Eric Powell, 2017, Vol. 70, Issue 3), but the fact of being a citizen started to mean more for people, because they felt the freedom to express their thoughts, and that is how the democracy
