Ancient Egypt The purpose of my book and article is to inform the reader about ancient Egypt, the Egyptians, its history, etc. This protagonist in the book would be the Egyptian people and the Pharaohs. This is because they are the people that were currently living in Egypt at this time. In my essay I will talk about the history of ancient Egypt, life and the afterlife for the Egyptians, the Old, Middle, and the New Kingdoms of ancient Egypt, the Pharaohs, and the games during this time. Some text features I found in the book were: a table of contents on page which I was able to go back to when looking for the right pages on my topic, an index on page , and headings on pages 12, 14, and 16. The New Kingdom lasted from 1550 BC to 1070 BC which was the 18th to the 20th dynasty. At this time Pharaohs were not only viewed as a leader and ruler of an empire, but also as an important figure in religion and religious practice. The capitol was Thebes which was also the capitol during the middle age. The New Kingdom was known as the “ Imperial Age” because, it had prospered and was a new empire.

A Pharaoh was the most important and powerful person in the kingdom. He or she was the head of the government and high priest of every temple. The people of Egypt considered the Pharaoh half-man half-god. The ancient Egyptians referred to their kings and queens as Pharaohs. The first true Pharaoh of Egypt was Narmer (sometimes called Menes), he was the first king of the first dynasty/ the beginning of the old kingdom.

The games people played in ancient Egypt were very similar to some games people still play today. Some of their games were traditional African games, and others were learned from their West Asian neighbors. People in ancient Egypt played games with pieces like checkers or mancala or senet. Egyptian kids played games with knucklebones or small stones, like jacks. (Knucklebones are really the ankle bones of sheep). Sometimes they made artificial knucklebones out of clay.
