Ancient civilizations were positioned where they were for a reason, to make use of the resources that were in those places. You may notice that most ancient civilizations didn’t settle in the desert or in the middle of nowhere they settled in places where they had resources natural, capital and human. Ancient civilizations mainly looked for a lot of natural resources when looking for a place to settle. If you look at maps showing where ancient civilizations settled you will see that it was mainly around a big body of water. Water is a natural resource that is vital to all life so settling near water gave these civilizations many necessary things such as hydration, transportation, and cleanliness. With water came fertile soil which you could find anywhere that there was water. When the rainy season came the waters would flood and make the soil around it fertile. These civilizations looked for other natural resources as well such as rocks and minerals to help them build , trees to produce wood for houses, and plants to help with food supplies but water was the most important thing that was needed in order for a civilization to form and grow properly. …show more content…

They needed to settle where capital resources would be available to them things like wheels, silk, metal tools and other man made items were necessary because they were needed to build houses ,farm gardens, and keep the civilization strong and healthy. To get these materials you would have to engage in trade with other civilizations. This is where capital resources pertain to location because if you settle in the middle of nowhere than you cannot access the capital resources you need because their will be no way to trade with other civilizations if their are no civilizations to trade with.
